#ThisMonthInHistory: Marvel Star Wars #42 was published September 23 yet had a December 1980 date on the top left.

But this first comic book appearance of #BobaFett mirrored the same content in Marvel Comics Super Special #16 (bottom left; dated May 1, 1980), Marvel Illustrated Books: The Empire Strikes Back (top right; dated May 1, 1980), and Marvel Special Edition 2: The Empire Strikes Back (bottom right; dated Spring 1980). To add to the mix, you could include the U.K.'s The Empire Strikes Back Weekly #129 released August 14, 1980.

Oddly enough, despite those copyright dates, those variants contained issues #39-44, which makes us wonder which one really came first after all.

#FettFriday: The very first comic book appearance of #BobaFett is a bit of a mystery: the issue of Marvel #StarWars #42 hit newsstands in September 23, 1980 with a December 1980 date on the cover. But irregularly sized "Marvel Special Edition 2: The Empire Strikes Back" and "Marvel Comics Super Special Volume 1 #16" have the same comic within, each with Spring 1980 copyright dates. That's not all: "The Marvel Comics Illustrated Version of The Empire Strikes Back" had a release of May 1. Long story short, this cover from the comic book release is most impressive.

"Boba Fett Club" made an appearance in Star Wars Tales #24 from Dark Horse Comics back in 2005. While this may be the first time we've seen an Ewok in a #BobaFett helmet, it's not the first time we've seen Boba Fett alongside one.

In the same year #BobaFett was unmasked in #AttackOfTheClones (2002), the #StarWars Infinities comic followed suit with this variant "#Empire" moment. This was a fresh take on an aged Boba Fett since he was portrayed completely unmasked by Daniel Logan.

Despite some unusual observations we noticed during the last three days of online voting, #DarthVader moved on, defeating #BobaFett in the popular vote in the #ThisIsMadness2014 contest. To poke some fun at the result, we highlight the 2013 #comic, "The Assassination of Darth Vader," in which Fett and Vader duke it out. #JodoKast and #BobaFett faced off in "Twin Engines of Destruction," a 4-part comic in 1996 in the short-lived Topps #StarWars Galaxy Magazine. The story was written by Andy Mangels, who also wrote the initial Jaster Mereel / Concord Dawn backstory, since thrown out the window by the prequel storylines. The original, weekly "#StarWars Comic Strip" included a storyline called "The Frozen World of Ota," which first introduced #BobaFett to print on June 19, 1980. Almost every day later, he appeared again until the end of the run on August 10, 1980. The #comic from writer Russ Manning and artist Al Williamson was mostly black-and-white with weekends printed in color within the newspaper. The story was later re-published in full color by #DarkHorseComics in "Classic Star Wars: The Early Adventures 9." http://www.bobafettfanclub.com/bounty/books/comics/classic_9/
