The work done on Temuera Morrison as #BobaFett in #TheMandalorian (plus other characters) has a "Best Special Make-Up Effects" nomination in the Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylist Guild Awards next month

Samantha Ward, one of the show's makeup artists, had this trivia to share: "The creatives did not want to see typical burn scars and kept focusing on an 'acid burned bleached' quality to the skin, because of the Sarlacc's digestive acids. The final look utilized multiple pieces of Op-Site medical tape to create sections of textureless patches with highly wrinkled edges. Fourteen various scar and burn scar prosthetic transfers were placed all around Tem's head. Both Brian Sipe and Alexei Dmitriew spatter washy layers of Ghastly, Cool Tone and "Co-Oliv_Ice" (a custom mix that Brian makes of Cool Tone / Olive Adjuster / Rice Paper) tattoo paints from Skin Illustrator over the scars, and lightly over the whole head. This would reduce or kill any cheery warmth his natural skin tone had. More Cool Tone, Pastel Yellow and a Light Sienna striations were used to enhance and and create a unique quality to the scar tissued skin."

Helmet nod to Temuera Morrison returning to #StarWars, as seen here in Chapter 9 (Season 2 Episode 1) of #TheMandalorian

While technically a nomad with no name, the character is just shy of earning an end credit name check as #BobaFett, which also means he finally survived the Sarlacc in the current canon – no more "he's neither dead nor alive until a story pulls him out"

We can't share if/when the "I am Boba Fett" reveal will happen, but what a great way to start the season; episode 2 drops at midnight Pacific tonight

Footnote: this time we won't be so excited that we post a still when the episode first drops; instead, we'll keep our excitement behind a link to choose your own adventure – until the following Monday, in step with the Disney/Lucasfilm standard

Is that #BobaFett's damaged "ROTJ" jetpack on The Mandalorian's speeder?

Fett's more colorful jetpack would also have to be damaged, consistent with the events of "Return of the Jedi." In the current canon, Boba Fett only fell into the Sarlacc and is neither dead nor alive. He's rumored to return in Season 2, but at this point it's not officially confirmed.

As media, we have access to a 2.2gb ProRes master of the trailer, versus the 24mb YouTube file, allowing us less compressed frames to put this together. The still frames are also sharpened, to compete with all the motion blur in the actual shot.

Helmet nod to bhower1138 (Twitter) for sharing this observation and BestOfFett (Twitter) for its signal boost.

Just learned of a 4th stuntman to play #BobaFett in "Return of the Jedi"

This is the only shot to feature Louis Friedman, who joined Glenn Randall Jr., Dickey Beer, and Bob Yerkes as other stunt performers to don the Mandalorian armor for the original Sarlacc scene

Louis was an uncredited unit supervisor for the 1983 film and is currently an executive producer / unit production manager for major motion pictures

Special thanks to autograph collector Brian Comeaux for the info

When do you think we will get a quality #BobaFett comic in the new canon?

It's been too long since the 1996 comic "Twin Engines of Destruction," which developed the character while keeping a post-Sarlacc Fett very mysterious.

#FettFriday: Fett's Sarlacc-proof helmet!

This is a rare Polaroid photo of #BobaFett's stunt helmet, care of ILM's Ira Keeler, in an unpainted state.

The 501st Legion's Golden Gate Garrison captured and shared an interview yesterday with the legendary special effects artist in a video shared on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0chd8qqFAns

Ira describes how the entire Boba Fett costume was made of this kind of kitchen-style rubber for the scene where Fett falls into the Sarlacc Pit.

When Ira ponders the name of a colleague from the production, he's surely referring to Glenn Randall Jr., who also wore the Boba Fett costume for some of the stunts, along with Dickey Beer and Bob Yerkes.

While we've had no less than five Sarlacc "survivor" storylines, after Disney bought Lucasfilm, all of these Expanded Universe ideas were officially tossed aside. Yesterday's public declaration on Rinzler's Reddit AMA is only the second time Lucas has said Fett lives, after many times saying Fett dies. And this time it wasn't just a hot mic picking up Lucas like at the 2012 Star Wars Celebration VI convention.

While #BobaFett used aliases like #SarlaccFood and #SavaBrecMadak in the 1996 comic strip "Twin Engines of Destruction," Andy Mangels first coined the name of "Jaster Mereel" in relation to #BobaFett. In the #ExpandedUniverse, that name was used consistently, although it evolved to mean something and someone else (who was killed off). But that's commonplace. In the short story, "Last Man Standing," published in the 1996 book "Tales of the Bounty Hunters," we have these two great quotes: "One tale tells of Fett being a failed stormtrooper who killed his commanding officer. ... A third account tells of a Journeyman Protector from Concord Dawn named Jaster Mereel who adopted the mask and guise when he was convicted of treason." In this panel from the comic, we can see part of his scars after escaping the #Sarlacc.

If the #ExpandedUniverse is out, we could still see #BobaFett escape the Sarlacc. The official storyline just won't mirror the variety of versions already: #Jawas, #Dengar, and/or being "simply indigestible." If the official word on the street is that the jetpack-clad bounty hunter is still officially down in the pit after this #ReturnOfTheJedi moment -- pictured here in a painting by Dave Dorman -- it could also mean that 1) he's not necessarily dead and 2) he could escape in one of the new Disney/Lucasfilm films. What do you think?

For more about George Lucas' opinion on whether or not Boba Fett is alive or dead, see how it's waivered over the years but ends up now in the "alive" column:

"Blue Milk Special," the free and online #StarWars #comic now going on 5 years from illustrator Leanne Hannah and writer Rod William Hannah, loves to include #BobaFett. We tracked down over 65 of their panels that feature the bounty hunter -- and that's excluding written mentions which would increase that tally. In addition to the original trilogy appearances, they've adapted his roles in #StarWarsHolidaySpecial and #ShadowsOfTheEmpire, as well as some original stories with #Greedo. The chronological parody is soon to feature more Boba Fett with his #SarlaccPit stunt.

In Star Wars #81, #BobaFett flew right out of the #Sarlacc -- right after the "burp" and right before being found by #Jawas and suffering from memory loss! This panel features #illustration by Ron Frenz, Thomas Palmer, and Tom Mandrake. The #comic was written by Jo Duffy, published by #Marvel, and released in 1984.

"The apparently indigestible #BobaFett at the mouth of the #Sarlacc pit." This artwork by illustrator Rick Buckler was included in the Topps #StarWars Galaxy 3 series as #347, part of their "New Visions" sub-set in 1995. The work was also featured on the cover of Davis Anthony Kraft's Comics Interview "Super Special" Magazine released during the same year.
