Prior to the new Her Universe / Hot Topic "Firespray" apparel, the class name for his ship (which goes back to at least 1980) was only used in one press release for a recent Marvel comic

"#BobaFett - Lone Hunter" by Mike Capprotti

"I really wanted to do a darker piece that was cinematic with a lot of atmosphere and had that dusk grey/purple, blue, orange palette. My focus was on the mood and atmosphere in this one. I used existing assets for Boba and the Slave 1, but everything else in the scene was built, modeled and lit by me."

The new 593 piece LEGO set retails for $49.99 but has shown up ahead of the August 1 street date already at Costco for just $38.99

In case you missed it, the alternative name isn't just a LEGO thing – it's one of actually several new official products using the name "#BobaFett's Starship" (or "Boba Fett's Starfighter") instead of Slave I ... even the official #StarWars databank changed its web address and the text description wiped *almost* every prior mention of the original name

Happy birthday to sound designer Ben Burtt!

"To complete the sound effect [of Slave I], Burtt added a delay which would create an audio black hole before the twang of the sonic weapon. This was inspired by real life lightning that you often see before hearing the thunder. The source of the twang itself remains unknown and is something that Burtt prefers to keep a secret. Because it is such an unprecedented thing to have an absence of sound in a movie, the technicians who evaluated the film said that there was an audio problem with the reel which needed to be fixed." -- StarWars.com

Also, in 1979, the cost to build the Slave I (miniature) was $15,000, which adjusted for today's inflation would be over $50,000.

#ThisDayInHistory: Ben Burtt, responsible for the sound effects of #BobaFett and his ship, was born on this day in 1948.

"To create the sound for the Slave I, Ben Burtt did what he always did whenever he had to create a sound for a spaceship: look at how the ship was designed, how it looked like, how fast it would move, and what it could do. For the takeoff sound of the Slave I, Burtt combined a trumpet's whine with the horn of his own 1971 Dodge Duster while it was on a desert road." -- StarWars.com

This Amazon exclusive "Empire" Slave I from 2013 originally retailed for $70 and dipped as low as $35 that holiday season. It's now common to find for 3x or more retail price in mint condition.

The ship was a re-paint of an earlier "The Clone Wars" Slave I from 2010 and the Han Solo in Carbonite was a re-paint of the "The Saga Collection" version from 2006. A #BobaFett figure was not included in the box. "The Vintage Collection" intentionally had packaging to resemble the original look from 1980 with some slight changes.

#FettFriday: Concept art for #BobaFett's ship, Slave I, sketched in 1979 by Nilo Rodis-Jamero, who was instrumental in its design.

Nilo was the assistant art director and visual effects creator on "The Empire Strikes Back" and costume designer on "Return of the Jedi." This sketch was most recently re-published in "The Making of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" (2010).

"Joe Johnston showed me some of the ideas he had for Boba Fett, and I remember asking myself what his spaceship would look like. I remember seeing a radar dish and stopping to sketch it very quickly to see if I could get something out of it. The original design I had was round, but when you looked at it from the side, it became elliptical. For some reason, when I drew it, George thought it was elliptical, so that's what it became. When we were building the ship at ILM, somebody looked at street lamps and pointed out that they look like Boba's ship. So everyone began to think that was where I got the idea for the design."

#FettFriday: "Ready for Delivery" by Andrew Ravenwood. This #StarWars fan art from 2000 was the artist's first use of the #HanSolo in Carbonite model from SCiFi3d. He textured it for Bryce, the 3D landscape modeling and rendering software. Then he added #BobaFett in the foreground and considered adding Slave I to the background. "But after I started to add lights to the scene, I felt the picture would be more dynamic if I surrounded it in steam with its main focal point being Han Solo together with Fett," the artist told us in an interview.

Nilo Rodis-Jamero is said to have designed #BobaFett's Slave I. Credited as an assistant art director and visual effects creator on #StarWars The Empire Strikes Back and costume designer on Return of the Jedi, Rodis-Jamero worked with Joe Johnston and subsequently #GeorgeLucas. Initially influenced by a radar dish, he is quoted about how it incorrectly became a "street lamp" inspiration in the book entitled "Star Wars: The Annotated Screenplays." The sketch here was published in "The Art of Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back." Despite some unusual observations we noticed during the last three days of online voting, #DarthVader moved on, defeating #BobaFett in the popular vote in the #ThisIsMadness2014 contest. To poke some fun at the result, we highlight the 2013 #comic, "The Assassination of Darth Vader," in which Fett and Vader duke it out. In this panel, #SlaveI has just taken out some #TIEFighters nearby the Dark Lord of the Sith.

While we see a lot inside Slave I's cockpit in "Attack of the Clones," we didn't see much originally in "The Empire Strikes Back." Shots like this helped us know #BobaFett was both important to the story and a mysterious professional. Here is a photo of the presumed original storyboard that we recently came across.
