Three "holy grail" Kenner prototypes, the original Prototype costume blaster, and much more were on display at Rancho Obi-Wan's "#BobaFett to Bo-Katan: The Evolution of the Mandalorians Exhibit" at #StarWars Celebration 2022 last month.

There's still time to order their convention exclusive 27 card set featuring annotated images: https://bobafett.club/91lam (ends June 17 at 11:55pm Pacific)

You can also become a member of Rancho Obi-Wan and you can take a tour of their incredible museum in Petaluma, California.

Not shown here, but the final display was a heartfelt memorial to Jeremy Bulloch, the late actor who originally played Boba Fett in "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi." They also had the stunt "Return of the Jedi" jetpack on display, used for the shots of him crashing into the barge (by stuntmen Glenn Randall Jr. and/or Dickey Beer).

Fun fact: Rancho told us that our website's Boba Fett collectible database has come in handy from time to time for them, which is awesome. Check it out: https://bobafett.com/bounty/

Record-setting public sale yesterday: this "J-slot" rocket-firing #BobaFett prototype sold for $204,435 via Hake's Auctions

The front looks like a normal vintage Boba but the back of authentic and often unpainted Kenner protos are what's unique – rare "J" and less rare "L" slots

This one even had an AFA 50 VG status due to the normally longer firing stem bring broken, presumably due to testing at Kenner... yet sold after 27 bids for $18,585 more than the last previously known "J-slot" auction back in 2019, which had a higher AFA grade

Happy birthday George Lucas!

These rare shots from 1978 feature the "Pre-Pro 1" (aka PP1) version of #BobaFett with Lucas in both angles at Skywalker Ranch; on the right, he is with Kenner's David Okada

At BFFC, you know attribution is important: we confirmed both photos were taken by toy designer Jim Swearingen. The left one is digitally c/o Alex Howard and the right one is digitally c/o Marcus Schröder

Note the "Jaig eyes" painted onto the helmet, which were omitted in the "Pre-Pro 2" (aka PP2) version

We touched up the sharpness, contrast, and saturation in both shots to match better

We've been following auction sales for these ultra rare Kenner figures and, nuances aside, here is how different "L-slot" Fetts have sold: $19k in 2016 (Vectis), $86k in 2018 (Hake's), $145k in 2018 (private sale), $112k in 2019 (Hake's), and $70k in 2020 (Prop Store)

Did you know they added #BobaFett's legs for this 1983 "Return of the Jedi" action figure cardback art?

Shown on the sides are the Kenner and the Palitoy tri-logo toys courtesy of Hake's Auctions, with the popular official publicity photo in the middle - a slightly different moment (or the blaster was moved upward?) undoubtedly taken at the same focal length and crop, likely by Ralph Nelson Jr.

Note the smudginess and the super long cape, which on the real costume ends around his knees.

While the board game ultimately portrays him in Pre-Production #2 inspired armor, Fett's prominent inclusion in the game potentially served as a nod to the character's Hoth-based origins.

Watch the entire interview: https://youtu.be/hDtHaWSrwpA

The "Pre-Production #2" Fett costume dates back to mid-1978 when the figure had slightly different details like color nuances, brown gloves with circle patterns, and a gauntlet flamethrower, which some fans also saw on the Kenner action figure cardback before his theatrical debut in "The Empire Strikes Back."

#ThrowbackThursday: Do you have an original #BobaFett action figure?

Between 1979 and 1983, the same mold for the figure was available carded and by mail-away (via proofs-of-purchase or Sears). The spring-loaded rocket pack was never produced beyond some small handful of prototypes, while some foreign versions have removable rocket pieces.

There are some noticeable differences between the figures, such as the embossed copyright mark on the leg either noting Hong Kong (light brown belt and visor), Taiwan (medium blue vs. light blue), or simply no country of origin (COO). But there are also some subtle paint and craftsmanship variations between the Kenner (USA), Kenner Tri-Logo (European, e.g. darker brown), Palitoy (UK), Poch/PBP (Spain, e.g. lighter olive green chest armor, brighter red visor and right wrist gauntlet, and deformations on the legs and rocket tip), Lili Ledy (Mexico), and Meccano (France) releases.

Present-day photo of the vintage figure by Skeleton Astronaut, shared with us on our public group on Flickr. Special thanks to @Phu_77 (Instagram) for all the information he's shared to help fact-check this post.

#FettFriday: "#BobaFett has many features to recreate the fun and excitement of the movie." Here is part of the instruction manual for the #original "large" Boba Fett action figure. The #Kenner toy was first released in 1979 in "#StarWars" packaging, a year before Boba Fett's theatrical debut. The figure was re-packaged in an "#Empire" box the year later.
