Marvel Star Wars #42 started showing up in comic shops as early as this day in 1980

Often considered the first appearance of #BobaFett (although that may be incorrect – see https://daily.bobafett.com/278/), Dengar, Bossk, IG-88, and Zuckuss, as well as Slave I

Fun fact: cover dates (e.g. December 1980) used to be when they would star to pull it off the shelves, not the first in-store date – generally a few months beforehand

#MandalorianMonday: Who was #BobaFett's most worthy rival? In "Twin Engines of Destruction," bounty hunter #JodoKast was certainly a contender.

For more about the 1997 classic, which Marvel is bringing back for re-prints, see http://bobafett.com/bounty/books/comics/twin-engines-of-destruction/. The one-shot was also included in Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: The New Republic Volume 1 (2015), Star Wars Omnibus: Boba Fett (2010), and The Bounty Hunters Trade Paperback (2000), as well as of course its original debut in Topps Star Wars Galaxy Magazine.

#ThisMonthInHistory: Marvel Star Wars #42 was published September 23 yet had a December 1980 date on the top left.

But this first comic book appearance of #BobaFett mirrored the same content in Marvel Comics Super Special #16 (bottom left; dated May 1, 1980), Marvel Illustrated Books: The Empire Strikes Back (top right; dated May 1, 1980), and Marvel Special Edition 2: The Empire Strikes Back (bottom right; dated Spring 1980). To add to the mix, you could include the U.K.'s The Empire Strikes Back Weekly #129 released August 14, 1980.

Oddly enough, despite those copyright dates, those variants contained issues #39-44, which makes us wonder which one really came first after all.

For all Boba Fett comics, see http://bobafett.com/bounty/books/comics/

(Caption updated for further clarity. Vintage comic dates on the top left were often considered back then months to pull the issue off newsstands.)

#ThrowbackThursday / #ThrowforwardThursday: Marvel's 2015 Line-up for Fett Looks ... Familiar

This first move for present-day Marvel working with Fett is actually something we've already seen before. It's a re-do of their Star Wars #68 comic from 1983. In fact, this isn't even Boba Fett; it's Tobbi Dala and Fenn Shysa (two Mandalorians) who make an appearance.

(Correction: it's assumed Boba Fett has a different appearance – on the cover and in the center spread is the same character with Wookiee scalps.)

Here's hoping to something new in 2015.

#FettFriday: The very first comic book appearance of #BobaFett is a bit of a mystery: the issue of Marvel #StarWars #42 hit newsstands in September 23, 1980 with a December 1980 date on the cover. But irregularly sized "Marvel Special Edition 2: The Empire Strikes Back" and "Marvel Comics Super Special Volume 1 #16" have the same comic within, each with Spring 1980 copyright dates. That's not all: "The Marvel Comics Illustrated Version of The Empire Strikes Back" had a release of May 1. Long story short, this cover from the comic book release is most impressive.
