40 years ago today, "Return of the Jedi" premiered in theaters

George Lucas on the DVD commentary: "[H]ad I known he was going to turn into such a popular character, I probably would've made it a little bit more exciting. Boba Fett was just another one of the minions, another one of the bounty hunters and bad guys. But, he became such a favorite of everybody's. For having such a small part, he had a very large presence. And now that his history has been told in the [prequel] trilogy, it makes it even more of a misstep that we wouldn't make more out of the event of his defeat, because most people don't believe he died anyway. I had contemplated putting in that extra shot in where he climbs out of the hole, but you know I figure that's... it doesn't quite fit in the end."

Before the cameras rolled on #BobaFett actor Jeremy Bulloch in "Return of the Jedi" (shown top center in a candid moment circa 1982), at least three other stand-ins were on set in his place: Quentin Pierre, Roy Beck, and Jack Dearlove

As noted on various call sheets for the original film, well documented when they go up for auction by Prop Store, these actors were stand-ins for several characters and even on screen, like Quentin was one of the Bespin guards escorting Solo in Carbonite for Fett in "Empire"

It's unknown if any of them suited up for camera or lighting tests, but nice to appreciate their role in production history

On #ThisDayInHistory, Duwayne Dunham wore the #BobaFett costume and introduced some lucky parade attendees in San Anselmo, California to the most infamous bounty hunter in the galaxy:

"What I remember about that day is it was incredibly hot. I'm not just talking about the suit, I'm saying that day in San Anselmo was really hot. ... Nobody knew about Boba Fett at that point. ... I would imagine that [for] most people seeing the two, they just figured it was a new character aligned with Vader. We were at the front end of the parade; we were leading the whole thing. We just walked side by side down the street. It was a little funny."

On this day in 2004, the original #StarWars trilogy was released on DVD. But this release officially retconned the voice of #BobaFett, making it match Boba Fett's father, #JangoFett (Temuera Morrison), and ditching the 1980 version (Jason Wingreen).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The one-of-a-kind carded rocket firing #BobaFett prototype from the 1979 Toy Fair is up on eBay at http://j.mp/1n6SN16

The auction appeared right after it was on Wednesday night's pre-taped episode of Pawn Stars (Season 10 Episode 31 "The Pawn Awakens"), where the seller (Robert) eventually rejected a $100,000 offer. (Perhaps he had to contractually wait until the show aired first?)

Looking at the history books, it looks like this very figure may have been up for auction at $100,000 in 2008 on eBay, which is when these particular photos seem to originate. Other posts suggest it's been up for sale from the same seller since 2002.

#ThisMonthInHistory: Marvel Star Wars #42 was published September 23 yet had a December 1980 date on the top left.

But this first comic book appearance of #BobaFett mirrored the same content in Marvel Comics Super Special #16 (bottom left; dated May 1, 1980), Marvel Illustrated Books: The Empire Strikes Back (top right; dated May 1, 1980), and Marvel Special Edition 2: The Empire Strikes Back (bottom right; dated Spring 1980). To add to the mix, you could include the U.K.'s The Empire Strikes Back Weekly #129 released August 14, 1980.

Oddly enough, despite those copyright dates, those variants contained issues #39-44, which makes us wonder which one really came first after all.
