Three "holy grail" Kenner prototypes, the original Prototype costume blaster, and much more were on display at Rancho Obi-Wan's "#BobaFett to Bo-Katan: The Evolution of the Mandalorians Exhibit" at #StarWars Celebration 2022 last month.

There's still time to order their convention exclusive 27 card set featuring annotated images: https://bobafett.club/91lam (ends June 17 at 11:55pm Pacific)

You can also become a member of Rancho Obi-Wan and you can take a tour of their incredible museum in Petaluma, California.

Not shown here, but the final display was a heartfelt memorial to Jeremy Bulloch, the late actor who originally played Boba Fett in "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi." They also had the stunt "Return of the Jedi" jetpack on display, used for the shots of him crashing into the barge (by stuntmen Glenn Randall Jr. and/or Dickey Beer).

Fun fact: Rancho told us that our website's Boba Fett collectible database has come in handy from time to time for them, which is awesome. Check it out: https://bobafett.com/bounty/

Before the cameras rolled on #BobaFett actor Jeremy Bulloch in "Return of the Jedi" (shown top center in a candid moment circa 1982), at least three other stand-ins were on set in his place: Quentin Pierre, Roy Beck, and Jack Dearlove

As noted on various call sheets for the original film, well documented when they go up for auction by Prop Store, these actors were stand-ins for several characters and even on screen, like Quentin was one of the Bespin guards escorting Solo in Carbonite for Fett in "Empire"

It's unknown if any of them suited up for camera or lighting tests, but nice to appreciate their role in production history

Costume aficionados like BFFC fan Josh Whitman and Fett4Real's 1313 Studios were quick to note this promotional rendering for this figure follows the "ROTJ: SE" variant rather than the true "ROTJ," although it's still a welcome addition to a very regular use of "ESB" variant in the series

Is that #BobaFett's damaged "ROTJ" jetpack on The Mandalorian's speeder?

Fett's more colorful jetpack would also have to be damaged, consistent with the events of "Return of the Jedi." In the current canon, Boba Fett only fell into the Sarlacc and is neither dead nor alive. He's rumored to return in Season 2, but at this point it's not officially confirmed.

As media, we have access to a 2.2gb ProRes master of the trailer, versus the 24mb YouTube file, allowing us less compressed frames to put this together. The still frames are also sharpened, to compete with all the motion blur in the actual shot.

Helmet nod to bhower1138 (Twitter) for sharing this observation and BestOfFett (Twitter) for its signal boost.

Shown on the sides are the Kenner and the Palitoy tri-logo toys courtesy of Hake's Auctions, with the popular official publicity photo in the middle - a slightly different moment (or the blaster was moved upward?) undoubtedly taken at the same focal length and crop, likely by Ralph Nelson Jr.

The 2017 LEGO Desert Skiff Escape (right) set was looking mostly like a do-over of the 2012 Desert Skiff set, but the #BobaFett minifigure appears to have a bunch of "Return of the Jedi" updates: increased armor damage, grey flight suit, yellow gloves/hands, and re-designed ammo belt.

Other observations: it's got the same generation of printing as the 2015 UCS Fett, and we'll have to keep on dreaming for that "Jedi" jetpack to have the proper colors.

#TriviaTuesday: "The Scavenger" by Legacy Effects, which sold at auction for $17,209.89, with all proceeds going to the Make-a-Wish foundation.

Made for the As You Wish Helmet Project of 2012, this studio imagined that "an indigenous lifeform of Tatooine finds #BobaFett's helmet at the Great Pit of Carkoon and repurposes it as his shell."

George Lucas himself saw this among other custom helmets at #StarWars Celebration VI, where he said aloud that this should be called "The Survivior" because at the time he believed Boba Fett didn't die in the Sarlacc.

#FettFriday: No #AprilFools joke here -- this is Leia and Luke both saying "#BobaFett" aloud in "The Empire Strikes Back."

Needless to say, this moment was cut from the final film, leaving it until "Jedi" for the bounty hunter to be named aloud on screen -- aside from the "Holiday Special" in 1978 and "E.T." in 1982.

Elliot names all of his #StarWars action figures for his friend from outer space. At 28 minutes and 53 minutes into the film, Fett is mentioned by name. Since the film premiered in 1982, this marked the first time on the theatrical screen we heard the name "Boba Fett." He wasn't mentioned by name in The Empire Strikes Back (1980), but he was in Return of the Jedi (1983). #ThrowbackThursday: #BobaFett photo at Kenner vs. final cardback artwork.

The photo on the left is circa 1978, shot at Kenner with one of the pre-production Fett costumes. This "fireball" cardback first appeared with his action figure debut on a "#StarWars" cardback at the 1979 NYC Toy Fair. Only slight tweaks were made to the fireball effect before the same idea was used for some of the standard "Empire" and "Jedi" cardbacks.

#FettFriday: Concept art for #BobaFett's ship, Slave I, sketched in 1979 by Nilo Rodis-Jamero, who was instrumental in its design.

Nilo was the assistant art director and visual effects creator on "The Empire Strikes Back" and costume designer on "Return of the Jedi." This sketch was most recently re-published in "The Making of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" (2010).

"Joe Johnston showed me some of the ideas he had for Boba Fett, and I remember asking myself what his spaceship would look like. I remember seeing a radar dish and stopping to sketch it very quickly to see if I could get something out of it. The original design I had was round, but when you looked at it from the side, it became elliptical. For some reason, when I drew it, George thought it was elliptical, so that's what it became. When we were building the ship at ILM, somebody looked at street lamps and pointed out that they look like Boba's ship. So everyone began to think that was where I got the idea for the design."

#ThrowbackThursday: #BobaFett appeared on Mos Eisley in Docking Bay 94 for a few moments alongside Jabba the Hutt, Han Solo, and the Millennium Falcon.

Some trivia: Fett's left shoulder is mysteriously missing its usual symbol; the armor colors more so resembles "Jedi" rather than "Empire," even though that would be out of order (unless Fett perhaps carries multiple sets of armor with him in the cargo hold); and, making the rounds again online, this appearance would connect the possibility that Fett actually torched Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, later warranting Darth Vader's comment to Fett later on, "no disintegrations" (this time).

"Threepio is standing behind the grotesque gangster as he strokes Leia like a pet cat. Several of the guards, including Lando, bring Luke from the other side of the room. Boba is standing behind Jabba." -- Excerpt from the #StarWars Return of the Jedi script written by Lawrence Kasdan and George Lucas.

#ThrowbackThursday: This rare photograph of #BobaFett on the Sarlacc set for #ReturnOfTheJedi, dated January 1982, was shown in a #StarWars exhibit at the 2007 San Diego Comic Con. We took this photo of the exhibit photo, which for some reason was shown inverted. We've yet to see it published anywhere else.

#ThrowbackThursday: Bob Yerkes was one of 3 stuntmen to play #BobaFett in #StarWars #ReturnOfTheJedi. The word on the street is that Yerkes was just needed for a close-up of the Skiff shots (in Yerkes own backyard no less), whereas the other two stuntmen worked in Yuma, Arizona for the larger shots with the #Sarlacc Pit.

Nilo Rodis-Jamero is said to have designed #BobaFett's Slave I. Credited as an assistant art director and visual effects creator on #StarWars The Empire Strikes Back and costume designer on Return of the Jedi, Rodis-Jamero worked with Joe Johnston and subsequently #GeorgeLucas. Initially influenced by a radar dish, he is quoted about how it incorrectly became a "street lamp" inspiration in the book entitled "Star Wars: The Annotated Screenplays." The sketch here was published in "The Art of Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back." If the #ExpandedUniverse is out, we could still see #BobaFett escape the Sarlacc. The official storyline just won't mirror the variety of versions already: #Jawas, #Dengar, and/or being "simply indigestible." If the official word on the street is that the jetpack-clad bounty hunter is still officially down in the pit after this #ReturnOfTheJedi moment -- pictured here in a painting by Dave Dorman -- it could also mean that 1) he's not necessarily dead and 2) he could escape in one of the new Disney/Lucasfilm films. What do you think?

"#BobaFett looks on as the criminal underworld gathers in Jabba's palace," notes the caption on the LucasArts "#StarWars: Behind the Magic" CD-ROM from 1998, which features nearly 100 references to Boba Fett and many hard-to-find behind-the-scenes photos. Here's an alternate view from his scene in #ReturnOfTheJedi.

Boba Fett's antenna appears to flip sides in "Return of the Jedi." As many fans already know, this is due to the film negative being flipped for the edit, where the production filmed him looking left, but the post-production needed him looking right.
