Behind the Mask Executives

Gary Kurtz

Born: July 27, 1940
Died: September 23, 2018

"Empire Strikes Back" Producer

Prior to producing "Empire," Gary also produced "Star Wars" (A New Hope).

On set with director Irvin Kershner, seen in some behind the scenes photos with a masked Jeremy Bulloch on the set of the Executor.

Along with Irvin Kershner, Kurtz met Jason Wingreen when he did the original voice-over for Boba Fett.

Involved with the toy marketing, seen in a photo looking at Kenner's "Large" Boba Fett.

Chris Taylor (Mashable) interviewed Star Wars producer Gary Kurtz for the 9/2014 Full Of Sith podcast, which included some trivia about the director of "Empire" and his vision for the Boba Fett / Luke Skywalker hallway shootout:

"[Kershner] was very good with the actors and he was a bit slow. The visual effects team made fun of him sometimes because he would stage a scene and they would say, 'Okay, Boba Fett's going to shoot at Luke here so you want bullet hits here and here,' and they'd mark in pencil so they're going to drill holes and put these squibs in. Inevitably, they'd say, 'Are you sure now? Are you sure this is where you want them?' So they'd drill the holes and they'd put the squibs in and then cover them up."
