Celebration Anaheim: Preliminary Animation of Boba Fett in “Bounty Hunter Arc”

At the “Untold Clone Wars with Dave Filoni and Pablo Hidalgo” panel, we at the Boba Fett Fan Club expected Boba Fett to be mentioned regarding the final “bounty hunter arc” storyline. We were correct.

Along with a lot of “mentions” of Fett, two video clips were shared with the crowd of several thousand fans — many of whom also filmed the panel. (It’s unclear to us what the exact policy is for this, so we as a media pass holder believe it’s Fair Use and also posted our e-mail address in the embed should there be a take-down request.)

Filoni described one episode in the “bounty hunter arc” as referencing John Ford’s 1956 film, “The Searchers,” highlighting a mentor dynamic between Bane and Fett. We all were shown a clip featuring Boba Fett and Cad Bane. The preliminary animation had its final voice-over, but was not yet fully animated.

Since “The Clone Wars” is done for good, and “Rebels” is the new show for the team, Filoni and Pablo Hidalgo wondered if maybe the story would be fleshed out in a comic, especially after all of the Jango/Boba comics.

The panel went on to include a Q&A where one fan asked if Cad Bane and Boba Fett will in fact be in Star Wars Rebels. Filoni chose to only address Bane. “At present Cad Bane is not.” He went on to explain that, if it’s related to the story, it’s more of a shot. It seemed tell-tale that Filoni wasn’t mentioning Fett.

However, Filoni went on to describe in general that Boba Fett is akin to the classic Clint Eastwood western archetype. With Cad Bane, there’s some camaraderie but the two are also enemies. Filoni suggested that Bane is teaching Boba in order to learn who was better: his father Jango or him. “If Bane can teach Boba to be great like his dad, then Bane can know who’s better,” Filoni concluded.

The duo also opted to show a surprise clip, which here shows Boba Fett in full armor — a first for the show.

The clip also includes Bossk, Embo, Latts Razzi, and Count Dooku.

Celebration Anaheim: Boba Fett Trivia at Star Wars Costumes Panel

The “Star Wars Costumes” panel, hosted by Brandon Alinger, just wrapped and Boba Fett made a few appearances.

When showing artwork by Ralph McQuarrie and John Mollo, Brandon mentioned how the Hoth snow trooper was an original look for #BobaFett. He’s referencing a sketch of a concept Fett wearing a big coat.

One was a nice large shot of this “Supertrooper” diagram, pictured above, which previously has only been shown very small in print and online (including on our own site). We got this photo of it, but the projector resolution prevented us from seeing how each part of the costume was labeled.

During the Q&A, one audience member asked why did Boba Fett’s costume change colors between movies? The host mentioned how Joe Johnston was involved in the book’s research process and, while Joe originally painted the gauntlets red and yellow, he doesn’t know exactly why it changed. Anyone know?

When asked about his favorite moment exploring the Lucasfilm Archives, Brandon mentioned how Boba Fett’s white prototype costume had its belt included in a belt box. Nice surprise!

[Update 4/6/2015 5pm PST: Boba Fett ended up losing with only 34% … despite a whole lot of getting out the vote for Boba Fett. This is almost identical to the vote pattern last year. Kinda odd. Oh well!]

Here we go, Boba Fett fans!

VOTE NOW

Here’s a tally of how the vote is going:

  • 4/3/2015 8:30pm PST: Boba Fett has 33% of the vote
  • 4/4/2015 1:30am PST: Boba Fett has 33% of the vote
This seems a little unusual — no change either way in five hours?
  • 4/4/2015 10:00am PST: Boba Fett has 34% of the vote
  • 4/4/2015 12:00pm PST: Boba Fett has 34% of the vote
Still no shift again after a couple hours?
  • 4/4/2015 6:30pm PST: Boba Fett has 34% of the vote
Seeing a trend here of zero change after a solid 6.5 hours…
  • 4/4/2015 11:45pm PST: Boba Fett has 34% of the vote
    Still no change…?

Vote #TeamBoba in “This Is Madness 2015″ Match-Up: Boba vs. Tarkin

[Updated 4/2: Boba Fett finished the public voting period with 59% of the tally.]

After an admirable re-count by StarWars.com, which put Boba Fett from the losing column into the winners circle — on April Fool’s Day no less — Boba makes it to the next round which is … right now.

VOTE NOW

Here’s a tally of how the vote is going:

  • 4/1/2015 9pm PST: Boba Fett has 71% of the vote
  • 4/1/2015 11pm PST: Boba Fett has 72% of the vote
  • 4/2/2015 9am PST: Boba Fett has 62% of the vote
  • 4/2/2015 2pm PST: Boba Fett has 60% of the vote
  • 4/2/2015 3:15pm PST: Boba Fett has 61% of the vote
  • 4/2/2015 5:00pm PST: Boba Fett has 59% of the vote

Tarkin previously beat General Grievous. Boba previously beat Jango in a vote frought with digital ballot stuffing, which we documented.

If Boba Fett wins this round, he will face off against Darth Vader. Last year Fett faced Vader and it was quite a battle.

[Updated 4/1/2015 8:45pm PST: In a stunning turn of events, StarWars.com dug into the data and changed the winner. “Boba actually won. Some users tried to rig the match for Jango but we filtered out the fake votes.”]

[Updated 3/30/2015 9:45am PST]

Starting last night and going for the next 2 days over at the official Star Wars website’s This Is Madness “March Madness” bracket-style voting game, Boba Fett is up against Jango Fett in a match of the clicks.

VOTE NOW

Here’s a tally of how the vote is going:

  • 3/27/2015 7pm PST: Boba Fett has 66% of the vote
  • 3/27/2015 11pm PST: Boba Fett has 23% of the vote
This seems very strange: 4 hours and 43% of the vote shifts?
  • 3/28/2015 11am PST: Boba Fett has 31% of the vote
  • 3/28/2015 2:30pm PST: Boba Fett has 36% of the vote
  • 3/28/2015 4:15pm PST: Boba Fett has 37% of the vote
  • 3/28/2015 7:15pm PST: Boba Fett has 39% of the vote
  • 3/29/2015 12:15am PST: Boba Fett has 30% of the vote
This seems very strange: 5 hours and 9% of the vote shifts?
  • 3/29/2015 10:30am PST: Boba Fett has 32% of the vote
  • 3/29/2015 2:30pm PST: Boba Fett has 34% of the vote
  • 3/29/2015 6:30pm PST: Boba Fett has 35% of the vote
  • 3/29/2015 10:45pm PST: Boba Fett has 36% of the vote
  • 3/30/2015 9:45am PST: Boba Fett has 37% of the vote
  • Voting ended with Boba Fett losing … but on 4/1 (April Fool’s Day no less) they have Boba Fett winning the vote

Let’s keep pushing for Boba Fett to win with 51% if not more!

Last year, Boba Fett won 70% of the vote when he faced off against Jango Fett. Let’s hope it can happen again.

These polls are not scientific and also have one major flaw, which affected the vote last year too. They appear to just use browser cookies to tell if you’ve voted already. Disabling or deleting the “match” cookies set by “tim.starwars.com,” and anyone can appear to vote again.

That said, there’s word of a “re-count” for the last challenge, where Jar Jar trumped Padme Amidala, claiming “ballot stuffing.”

Spotted by the Boba Fett Fan Club this morning on Instagram, here are newly released promotional photos of the Play Arts Kai (Square Enix) Boba Fett.

It’s made of PVC, comes fully painted, and is about 6″ (150mm) wide, 10.25″ (260mm) tall, and has a depth of 3.5″ (90mm). It retails for $100 (12,000 Yen) and is scheduled for a July release.

How can you get this one?

Most international shipping uses FedEx. Many of these vendors, but not all, process payments with PayPal, which generally handles currency conversion. We’ve normalized all prices to American Dollars, since most of our readership uses dollars.

Helmet nod to hobby shop AmiAmi who posted the photos, and to ncurablekollector (Instageam) for the post that caught our eye this morning.
