"You didn't earn this armor! You didn't earn my reputation." – #BobaFett to #JodoKast

Written by Andy Mangels, "Twin Engines of Destruction" was first published in four issues of Star Wars Galaxy Magazine (1995-6), before being a single one-shot comic in 1997 by Dark Horse

The fan-favorite story is getting yet another reprint in "Star Wars Legends The New Republic Omnibus Volume 2" (June 2024), just on the heels of a 2024 reprint of the old "Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: The New Republic Volume 1" (out next week)

"On April 10 [1979] ... Jeremy Bulloch had his first day on camera in scene 380, transporting Han Solo in carbonite and shooting at Luke Skywalker. 'I remember the director saying to me before we started, 'This character has to be a very cool customer. Imagine you’re walking down the street in a Western town. He's quick, but stealthy.'" – The Making of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

Very similar interiors to the Riddell #BobaFett Helmet (1997) and Hasbro Boba Fett Helmet (2020)

Some inner ear detailing lost due to the headband on the Hasbro, although they did add some extra detailing on the inside of the cheeks which wasn't on the Riddell

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The one-of-a-kind carded rocket firing #BobaFett prototype from the 1979 Toy Fair is up on eBay at http://j.mp/1n6SN16

The auction appeared right after it was on Wednesday night's pre-taped episode of Pawn Stars (Season 10 Episode 31 "The Pawn Awakens"), where the seller (Robert) eventually rejected a $100,000 offer. (Perhaps he had to contractually wait until the show aired first?)

Looking at the history books, it looks like this very figure may have been up for auction at $100,000 in 2008 on eBay, which is when these particular photos seem to originate. Other posts suggest it's been up for sale from the same seller since 2002.

#ThrowbackThursday: Do you have an original #BobaFett action figure?

Between 1979 and 1983, the same mold for the figure was available carded and by mail-away (via proofs-of-purchase or Sears). The spring-loaded rocket pack was never produced beyond some small handful of prototypes, while some foreign versions have removable rocket pieces.

There are some noticeable differences between the figures, such as the embossed copyright mark on the leg either noting Hong Kong (light brown belt and visor), Taiwan (medium blue vs. light blue), or simply no country of origin (COO). But there are also some subtle paint and craftsmanship variations between the Kenner (USA), Kenner Tri-Logo (European, e.g. darker brown), Palitoy (UK), Poch/PBP (Spain, e.g. lighter olive green chest armor, brighter red visor and right wrist gauntlet, and deformations on the legs and rocket tip), Lili Ledy (Mexico), and Meccano (France) releases.

Present-day photo of the vintage figure by Skeleton Astronaut, shared with us on our public group on Flickr. Special thanks to @Phu_77 (Instagram) for all the information he's shared to help fact-check this post.

#FettFriday: Concept art for #BobaFett's ship, Slave I, sketched in 1979 by Nilo Rodis-Jamero, who was instrumental in its design.

Nilo was the assistant art director and visual effects creator on "The Empire Strikes Back" and costume designer on "Return of the Jedi." This sketch was most recently re-published in "The Making of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" (2010).

"Joe Johnston showed me some of the ideas he had for Boba Fett, and I remember asking myself what his spaceship would look like. I remember seeing a radar dish and stopping to sketch it very quickly to see if I could get something out of it. The original design I had was round, but when you looked at it from the side, it became elliptical. For some reason, when I drew it, George thought it was elliptical, so that's what it became. When we were building the ship at ILM, somebody looked at street lamps and pointed out that they look like Boba's ship. So everyone began to think that was where I got the idea for the design."

#FettFriday: "As you wish." Decipher made this promo poster in 1997 for their "Cloud City" Collectible Card Game expansion, which featured several #BobaFett cards. Track one down via http://j.mp/1s9DsxI

(Little known fact: we gave away a version of this poster to a website fan -- signed in person by Jeremy Bulloch -- when we conducted a live chat room interview with the incredible actor who portrayed Boba Fett from our then-HQ in San Francisco!)

"Shadows of the Empire" promo artwork by Jon Knoles.

#BobaFett never looked this good in the game, but this art was used for the cover of Gamepro Magazine #97 (1996). The 3D model was used for other poses, including a version on the video game cartridge.

#BobaFett's first public appearance was at the San Anselmo Community Fair and Parade on September 24, 1978. The costume was worn by Duwayne Dunham, who also wore the all-white prototype armor. This photo was recently shared by the official #StarWars website in an exclusive interview with Dunham. Note the "eye" marks on the helmet above the visor, which were part of the pre-production look, but eventually removed for the final character.

#ThrowbackThursday: the vintage animated television series "Droids" included one episode with #BobaFett back in 1985 called "A Race to the Finish."

Boba Fett was voiced by Don Francks (not George Buza). The episode was directed by Raymond Jafelice and written by both Peter Sauder and Steven Wright. It was made by Nelvana, the same studio who did the "#StarWars Holiday Special" animated debut of Boba Fett in 1978.

#MandalorianMonday: In June 1978, Joe Johnston's conceptual sketches start having "Boba Fett" written beneath them. This marked a change from the "super troopers" in the early draft of #TheEmpireStrikesBack. In this case, on sketch #299, note that it just says "Boba Fet" with one "t." #ThrowbackThursday: The original "Free #BobaFett" offer back in 1978. #StarWars fans thought they had until May 31, 1979 to send in four proofs of purchase to get the "fearsome interplanetary bounty hunter" who was "a new character in (the) Star Wars sequel." That action figure, not available in any store, was also never mailed out due to a concern over the rocket-firing jetpack feature.

Before #BobaFett appeared as a #Kenner toy (1979) or as a supporting character in #TheEmpireStrikesBack (1980), this is how he looked in the #StarWars Holiday Special's animated short in 1978.

#FettFriday: "#BobaFett has many features to recreate the fun and excitement of the movie." Here is part of the instruction manual for the #original "large" Boba Fett action figure. The #Kenner toy was first released in 1979 in "#StarWars" packaging, a year before Boba Fett's theatrical debut. The figure was re-packaged in an "#Empire" box the year later.

#BobaFett has been included in dozens of #videogames, such as the game cover, cartridge cover, and advertising model for Masters of Teras Kasi, which #LucasArts made in 1997. Unfortunately, this rendering looks nothing like the lo-fi character in the game. One cool trick in the game: you can play as #JodoKast.
