Here's a Mando'a Language Dictionary I've been working on. The first part, mostely complete, is the alphabet and grammar. The second part is the dictionary, not even close to being finished.

What do you think?

Nice, well written and simple guide. Thanks.

Only major problem with it: you wrote the mando'a words and phrases in the mandalorian font! You should add the  pronunciation underneath so that we can actually read all that without the mando font transcription. If any of us will want to write in mando (fanfics, forums...) we'll be using english fonts, not mandalorian fonts.

Remember mando'a is a spoken language and spelling may changes from a person to another, and that'd be OK as long as the pronunciation is right.

Re: Speak in Mando'a

s'cuy vode!

Having just completed KT's SW Republic Commando:True Colors (kandosii, BTW) Ive greatly increased my fascination with the Mando'a culture and am a huge fan of the idea of speaking Mando'a. Im not sure if there are enuff words to carry a convo entirely in Mando, but It'd be kandosii.

Anyone who knocks it or the stories she wrote totally missed the point of the tragedy of the Clone character in the SW Universe, and how it was great that a man like Kal'buir could give a few of them a chance to be more than "wet droids" by giving them the identity of such a noble culture.

Its good for the manda, I'd say...

I'm in...

BTW I got some members who are interested in starting some Clans up on my Thread:

http://www.bobafett.com/boards/viewtopi … 054#p53054

A lot of them may be showing up on this thread to start learning more Mando'a, since I left the link to this thread on my thread.

Question: how do you say: 'you' in Mando'a?

"you" is "gar", Mandal

Its just like saying "Ni Vod'ika te Werda Verda" which means I little brother of the Shadow Warriors

Re: Speak in Mando'a

I'm surprised no one's put this link on here.  The words are taken from Karen Traviss' Mando'a dictionary that she has on her web site and it's updated a little more often with more Mando'a words from her newer Republic Commando novels.

I know a bit of Mando'a.  Im in a mando'a culture clan called Aliit Drakus (clan drakus).  It's really fun.  My title means Clan Drakus Luitenant.

as is mine--Shadow Warrior. i can speak a LITTLE. i'd love to learn Dha Werda. i've memorized Vode An, and know scattered other words, but that's all

you know what i think?I think Mando'a is stupid. Travis thinks she can do all that all by herself? All of a sudden she can create a Mandolorian language and not talk to the old Fandalorians? she's full of herself. she has no right to write about Boba, no one does, but all the Boba Fett fans should. This goes for Mando'a too.

KT practically CREATED the Mandalorian culture--there was barely an info about them AT ALL before she wrote about them.

Same here.

I got Traviss's translation from a link on StarWars.com, but that was a while ago, and it's starting to show some holes.  Also, it's only from Mando'a into Engligh.  Need one that goes the other way around, so I can look up the English word and find out the translation rather then scanning the whole list hoping to stumble into what I need

Glad you're happy to be part of the group!  We don't have much to do yet; I need to figure some activites that will livin' things up.  I posted 2 of my character sheets on the Clan thread: http://www.bobafett.com/boards/viewtopi … 306#p56306; would be glad to have some more there from my fellow Claner's; and I'm working on an idea for a new RPG.  Might post a short preview of it there so we can disscuss it before I accually post it.

Re: Speak in Mando'a

Yeah!! its a HUGE list, but its impossible to find the right words on it. She REALLY needs to do an English-Mando'a dictionary. I'd love to know more. Vode An is great, and she includes parts of Dha Werda, but not the whole thing. maybe in Order 66......or Revelation. we con only hope.

Re: Speak in Mando'a

Vode An is. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Traviss?  *sorry, not sure  tongue *

Doesn't that translate 'Comrads/brothers/sisters All'?

Re: Speak in Mando'a

she wrote it, and it means, at least in the song, Brothers All. but with no gender, yeah. the whole thing is:

And glory, eternal glory, we shall bear its weight forever. Forged like the saber in the fires of death, brothers all.

Bal kode, darasum kode, jorsoran kando a tome. Sakyram, nau tracyn kad, vode an.

misspelled some stuff,  btw.

Is Huttese stupid? Is Klingon stupid? No...they're not. You know why? Because someone actually took the time to create the language, same as Ms. Travis did.  If you think the languages are "stupid" create one for yourself, you'll see how hard it is to do (Trust me, I created several. Not an easy task.) so give her some credit. At least she gave us a language for our Mandos. Besides, she has to get permission from Lucas or whoever is in charge of those things to get it published, so she probably isn't doing it all by herself.

About that writing. You say she can't write Boba but a fan can? Isn't that kind of counterdictive? Besides, she's probably a Boba/Mandalorian fan herself, otherwise why would she write stories for him?

have you seen her site or her blog on starwars.com
she is obsessed with the mando the way she has been using them is one of the main reasons im so into them... ive always loved the mando'ade but she has brought out my true fandom

Hey people,
Mando'a just got a whole lot easier to learn.  If you can access iTunes, then go on there and type in Boba Fett.  Yea, i do relise how big of a sw nerd i am to type in something like that, but when it pulls up the search, you can get a free subscription to a podcast in English that has a man who teaches some Mando'a phrases if you wish to learn how to proununciate the words better.  Podcast is called Aruetii ba'jurir dajun.  Also, you can get the star wars bounty hunter books on audio tapes from iTunes.  Just in case you were intrested big_smile

We may not have classes, but we have a language, and you could say that is just as 'bad'. The classes are just to help you learn it quicker, if you cant do it yourself.
