The latest issue of the Star Wars Insider magazine tells us more about the Fett connection in the prequels. Here’s their quote from George Lucas:

“He is a background character, but I needed a device, a bounty hunter to do things. That particular bounty hunter had become a rather popular character, and even though people were writing all kinds of things about where he came from, in my mind he was always connected to the stormtroopers. I realized I could use Jango Fett as the bounty hunter, and he would be Boba’s father, and then it all fell into place. But even if he wasn’t a popular character, it probably would have fallen into place. There are lots of little stories going on in [EPISODE II], sidebars of how things came to be. Some of it was written back then, mainly the main characters. But all the secondary characters, like Boba Fett, were added later.”

  2. Darth Garuda says:

    How often is this updated?

It’s the 17th already, enough with the fan art contest!

  3. Jaster Mereel says:

Lucas should have left Boba out of the prequels rather than change his entire story to SHIT.

  4. GARR the FETT says:

I NEVER REALLY LIKED LUCUS' IDEAS … HE PUT STAR WARS OUT THERE BUT THEN ON A QUEST TO MAKE MORE MONEY WITH episode 1, and 2,soon 3. HE SCREWD IT ALL UP. ESPECIALY THE FETT STORY. LEAVE IT TO K.W. JETTER or SOME OTHER AUTHER OF A GRAET FETT STORY TO TELL FETTS REAL PAST OR HOW ABOUT A BOOK WITH TALES OF HIS PAST. BUT NOMORE CLONE WARS . BY THE WAY TRYOUT THE LAST ONE STANDING by: daniel keys moran WONDERFUL READ
ALTHOUGH I DISAGREE WITH HALF IT … A GREAT READ.
    (NO REALATION TO BOBA FETT)
    GARR the FETT

  5. Andy says:

honesly, is it really necessary to complain about Lucas’s characters? Considering he made up Boba Fett I’m willing to bet HE already had an idea in his head of his history. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean you need to whine and cry about it.

  6. Gwen says:

I disagree with the fact that Lucas let all those authors come up with SANCTIONED Star wars books that he signed off on, that brought him money, and then went and changed everything to make more money. If he had his own story, fine, but he shouldn’t have let all those short (and not so short) stories be written to say otherwise.

i would like to agree with many of you. I think gwen was partiely right about the making more money thing but he also probly just didn’t like it. many of you put up questions and others just put up erellivant but nessasary comments. and andy yes it is very nessasary. This country in my opinyon is already not a democracy. All we have left to show our opinyons is debating about things we like not just letting lucas tear the story apart. Good idea lucas, but don’t be stupid. make the right choice. Im very upset because now all the things they put up are going to be based on the lie that boba fett was a clone. they’ll hardly come out with new stuff based on the truth that Boba Fett IS Jaster Merrel.

  8. batsi says:

fett is the perfect charecter for his role because he is a-moral ie has no emotions and can then be called apon to do anything, which is what happend to the storm troopers when darth sidious took over.the emperor knew all this and therefore used fet as the model for all storm troopers.

  9. JasterMereel says:

    bbbb

  10. Sam says:

Boba Fett is the coolest starwars character by far.I’m glad he’s just a background character because that’s what makes him mysterious.
the whole Jango thing was really a bad idea..
Because now we know what Bobas face looks like,we know how he became a bounty hunter and it’s just not mysterious anymore…He went from badass mercenary with a badass costume to curly little boy who is in no way interesting or badass.
I think he should have been introduced as a 19 or 20yr old in episode 2 if anything.
lucas seems to only care about moving the story along, telling us about these panzy jedi’s and Darth maul and darth vador and darth this and darth that. IG88 is more interesting to me than luke and anikin combined.. but you only see him for a split second in cloud city up against the wall..anyway.. boba fett is awesome. and this site is cool.

  11. Alana says:

For those of us who have waited years for the unvailing of more information on our favorate hunter, E2 was either rejoiced or trounced. While I sympathize with those nay-sayers, seeing Boba as a child was a rapturous moment. The highlight of the entire movie. I never liked Luke from the first time I ever saw ANH. He was whiny and childish. Boba, even as a child is more compelling as a character. Yes, Luke’s family was also taken away, but I don’t sympathise with him like I do Boba. There is a good reason why Boba Fett remains the most popular character in the Star Wars universe, and it’s not just the mystery surrounding him, he’s a great character.
Nothing that is written or filmed about him will change that fact.
To the bitchers, write your own goddamn story.

  12. John says:

    BoBa sucks

    just kidding

    not

  13. Darth Fett says:

Boba Fett is the most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy. He is deadly and more feared than Jango. Jango is better than Boba in battle, but Boba is cunning. Jango has a cooler armor(shiny, silver), and he has powerful dual blasters. Jango is awesome!! but Boba in my opinion is cooler. Boba Fett is mysterious, and his voice gives me goosebumps, brrr…If you don’t think Boba is feared, then WATCH EPISODE 5 AGAIN!!!!

  14. Darth Fett says:

Boba Fett is a mysterious and a awesome character. And i agree with you Alana, he is a great character…but i don’t like him as a child afterall…

  15. Michael persico says:

I think that boba fett should be in a greater role in episode three, because we should know more about him in these films!

  16. Danejarus says:

I have no problem with the Jango character, or Boba’s history, I just think they casted the wrong people. I think Jason Omara from CBS’s defunked “The Agency” would’ve been a better choice…I mean since when does Boba Fett have an accent anyway, he’s a “unaltered clone” of Jango so he can’t loose the accent. And what the hell kind of name is “Jango” anyway, it’s not badass, it doesn’t make me tremble, makes me laugh is what it does. C’mon George, get it right or we’ll start calling you coco (like in that episode of Seinfeld).

  17. bounty hunter says:

Lucas didn’t do anything wrong and some of you prey should back off and back off now. Either way Daneja, Garr the Fett, Jastor Mereel(etc.) nothing matters when no one cares. And if you’re hunted.

Everyone dies. It’s the final and only lasting Justice. Evil exists; it is intelligence in the service of entropy. When the side of a mountain slides down to kill a village, this is not evil, for evil requires intent. Should a sentient being cause that landslide, there is evil; and requires Justice as a consequence, so that civilization can exist. There is no greater good than Justice; and only if law serves Justice is it good law. It is said correctly that law exists not for the Just but for the unjust, for the Just carry the law in their hearts, and do not need to call it from afar. I bow to no one and I give service only for cause.

Have no fear bantha pelts, you’re no good to me dead.
