Vote #TeamBoba in “This Is Madness 2015″ Match-Up: Fett vs. Vader

Published April 3, 2015 by BFFC AaronComments no comments

[Update 4/6/2015 5pm PST: Boba Fett ended up losing with only 34% … despite a whole lot of getting out the vote for Boba Fett. This is almost identical to the vote pattern last year. Kinda odd. Oh well!]

Here we go, Boba Fett fans!

VOTE NOW

Here’s a tally of how the vote is going:

  • 4/3/2015 8:30pm PST: Boba Fett has 33% of the vote
  • 4/4/2015 1:30am PST: Boba Fett has 33% of the vote
This seems a little unusual — no change either way in five hours?
  • 4/4/2015 10:00am PST: Boba Fett has 34% of the vote
  • 4/4/2015 12:00pm PST: Boba Fett has 34% of the vote
Still no shift again after a couple hours?
  • 4/4/2015 6:30pm PST: Boba Fett has 34% of the vote
Seeing a trend here of zero change after a solid 6.5 hours…
  • 4/4/2015 11:45pm PST: Boba Fett has 34% of the vote
    Still no change…?
  • 4/5/2015 10:15am PST: Boba Fett has 34% of the vote
    Still no change…
  • 4/5/2015 7:15pm PST: Boba Fett has 34% of the vote
    Still no change……
  • 4/6/2015 10:15am PST: Boba Fett has 33% of the vote
Finally, a change in the numbers
  • 4/6/2015 2:45pm PST: Boba Fett has 34% of the vote

Vote #TeamBoba in “This Is Madness 2015″ Match-Up: Boba vs. Tarkin

Published April 1, 2015 by BFFC AaronComments no comments

[Updated 4/2: Boba Fett finished the public voting period with 59% of the tally.]

After an admirable re-count by StarWars.com, which put Boba Fett from the losing column into the winners circle — on April Fool’s Day no less — Boba makes it to the next round which is … right now.

VOTE NOW

Here’s a tally of how the vote is going:

  • 4/1/2015 9pm PST: Boba Fett has 71% of the vote
  • 4/1/2015 11pm PST: Boba Fett has 72% of the vote
  • 4/2/2015 9am PST: Boba Fett has 62% of the vote
  • 4/2/2015 2pm PST: Boba Fett has 60% of the vote
  • 4/2/2015 3:15pm PST: Boba Fett has 61% of the vote
  • 4/2/2015 5:00pm PST: Boba Fett has 59% of the vote

Tarkin previously beat General Grievous. Boba previously beat Jango in a vote frought with digital ballot stuffing, which we documented.

If Boba Fett wins this round, he will face off against Darth Vader. Last year Fett faced Vader and it was quite a battle.

[Updated 4/1/2015 8:45pm PST: In a stunning turn of events, StarWars.com dug into the data and changed the winner. “Boba actually won. Some users tried to rig the match for Jango but we filtered out the fake votes.”]

[Updated 3/30/2015 9:45am PST]

Starting last night and going for the next 2 days over at the official Star Wars website’s This Is Madness “March Madness” bracket-style voting game, Boba Fett is up against Jango Fett in a match of the clicks.

VOTE NOW

Here’s a tally of how the vote is going:

  • 3/27/2015 7pm PST: Boba Fett has 66% of the vote
  • 3/27/2015 11pm PST: Boba Fett has 23% of the vote
This seems very strange: 4 hours and 43% of the vote shifts?
  • 3/28/2015 11am PST: Boba Fett has 31% of the vote
  • 3/28/2015 2:30pm PST: Boba Fett has 36% of the vote
  • 3/28/2015 4:15pm PST: Boba Fett has 37% of the vote
  • 3/28/2015 7:15pm PST: Boba Fett has 39% of the vote
  • 3/29/2015 12:15am PST: Boba Fett has 30% of the vote
This seems very strange: 5 hours and 9% of the vote shifts?
  • 3/29/2015 10:30am PST: Boba Fett has 32% of the vote
  • 3/29/2015 2:30pm PST: Boba Fett has 34% of the vote
  • 3/29/2015 6:30pm PST: Boba Fett has 35% of the vote
  • 3/29/2015 10:45pm PST: Boba Fett has 36% of the vote
  • 3/30/2015 9:45am PST: Boba Fett has 37% of the vote
  • Voting ended with Boba Fett losing … but on 4/1 (April Fool’s Day no less) they have Boba Fett winning the vote

Let’s keep pushing for Boba Fett to win with 51% if not more!

Last year, Boba Fett won 70% of the vote when he faced off against Jango Fett. Let’s hope it can happen again.

These polls are not scientific and also have one major flaw, which affected the vote last year too. They appear to just use browser cookies to tell if you’ve voted already. Disabling or deleting the “match” cookies set by “tim.starwars.com,” and anyone can appear to vote again.

That said, there’s word of a “re-count” for the last challenge, where Jar Jar trumped Padme Amidala, claiming “ballot stuffing.”

Spotted by the Boba Fett Fan Club this morning on Instagram, here are newly released promotional photos of the Play Arts Kai (Square Enix) Boba Fett.

It’s made of PVC, comes fully painted, and is about 6″ (150mm) wide, 10.25″ (260mm) tall, and has a depth of 3.5″ (90mm). It retails for $100 (12,000 Yen) and is scheduled for a July release.

How can you get this one?

Most international shipping uses FedEx. Many of these vendors, but not all, process payments with PayPal, which generally handles currency conversion. We’ve normalized all prices to American Dollars, since most of our readership uses dollars.

Helmet nod to hobby shop AmiAmi who posted the photos, and to ncurablekollector (Instageam) for the post that caught our eye this morning.

It retails for 5400 Yen in Japan, but some vendors are charging more or less right now.

Here’s our curated punch-list of where and for how much you can get the figure.

Boba Fett Hits Stride at Disneyland’s Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend

[Updated 1/18 9:20pm PST: Now includes some photo picks from Sunday’s race!]

Star Wars fans are running through Disneyland for their inaugural kids, 5K, 10K, and half-marathon races. Events began January 15 and continue through tomorrow, January 18.

Many dressed up in Boba Fett apparel and many more got to see a Boba Fett cosplayer along the way. (If you’re curious about the Fett-styled fitness shirt that many of these runners are wearing, we have more information about it and where to buy it.)

Here are some of the photos we enjoyed — via our Instagram, Tumblr, and Twitter accounts — that were shared on social media. runDisney, who puts on events like this, suggested some coordinated hashtags (#starwars5k, #starwars10k, #starwarshalf, and #rebelchallenge) which many people used.

Have any more to add? Give a shout out in the comments!

Upcoming Bounty: Sideshow Collectibles Premium Format Boba Fett

Published January 12, 2015 by Scott CasanovaComments Comments Off

Upcoming Bounty is a series of editorial posts about newly released and/or newly announced Boba Fett collectibles, giving you the lowdown along with a pro collector opinion on what’s what.

Sideshow Collectibles Boba Fett Premium Format Figure

sideshow-boba-fett-premium-format-tn

Another big upcoming piece is the Boba Fett Premium Format (PF) figure from Sideshow Collectibles. Any by big I’m talking both size and price tag. This ¼ scale figure and base come in measuring 25.5″ tall and will leave a $439.99 hole in your wallet. Scheduled for a December ’15 release a pre-order has a non-refundable deposit of $44.00.

Sideshow, having already released a ROTJ Premium Format Boba, went ESB this time. With only the Sideshow publicity shots to go by it does look like they’ve made some improvements since their last PF Boba. In fact Sideshow has had some trouble with their Fett’s in general, but that’s a separate blog post. By my eye, the paint scheme and weathering on both the armor and flightsuit look more accurate than the previous. (But I’ll leave it to the folks at The Dented Helmet to offer their assessment.)

If nothing else it looks more real, the previous one still looks plastic. Like the previous PF figure the only articulation available here seems to be the neck/head and range finder. The base is reminiscent of Cloud City, and is angled to help create more of an action pose than the previous.

And it’s a great pose! In fact it looks to be inspired by a piece of artwork that I’ve seen floating around for a while. Most non-articulated statues of Boba have him just standing around, and the Attakus one just looks awkward to me.

The biggest downside to this piece is timing as it is scheduled to come out in the wake of the Hot Toys ¼ scale Fett at a slightly higher price of $469.99.

Pros:

  • Great pose!
  • ¼ scale
  • ESB Paint Scheme
  • If they can stay on schedule you can put it on your Christmas list

Cons:

  • Price
  • Sideshow’s history with Fett
  • Bad Product timing
  • Minimal articulation

My take:

Sideshow is counting their lucky stars and thanking their Non Refundable Deposit policy that they got this out before Hot Toys dropped theirs. However it’s an ESB Fett, and I really want Sideshow to put out another winner (LOVED the Mythos Fett) so I’m sticking with it. Besides I already put down the deposit. Given the price tag and the direct competition from Hot Toys this might stay in stock a bit longer than previously anticipated. I would guess at least until after Christmas ’15 so you can throw some Santa money at it if you already shelled out for the Hot Toys.

Spotted: LEGO UCS Slave I Available Earlier Than Expected

Published December 28, 2014 by Lucas McCoyComments Comments Off

lego-75060-legoland-early-release

[UPDATE 12/29 4pm PST: We can also confirm the set is being sold ahead of schedule at LEGO stores, one of which is the South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa, CA.]

Today, LEGOLAND in Florida had the brand-new LEGO UCS Slave I (75060) on its shelves for sale, well ahead of the scheduled January 1 release date.

Has anyone already picked up their new LEGO Slave I that was released early? Who’s planning to pick it up in store or on LEGO.com starting January 1?

(We checked with LEGO.com about any pre-sale and was told, out of fairness, that no advance sale was planned.)

Helmet nod to Curt Hersey for the head’s up and the photo!
