Re: No...NOOO!!!

Oh... weren't they flops too. I think the TV is pure disgusting anyway... movie.. bad. This is like them making some Ben 10 whatever the flip they call that show a live action movie. I hope they just throw that trash on tv if they dont have the courage to just stick it in the trash compactor.

Re: No...NOOO!!!

Hmph, I LOVE Dragonball and Dragonball Z. Thats why its so thoroughly depressing to actually see the live action movie coming together.... Especially since they're hardly sticking with the source materials. The only "good" thing I can say about this is, at least its not a Dragonball Z movie. I never EVER want to see a guy in front of a camera with too much hair gel on pretending to be Vegeta.....

Re: No...NOOO!!!

there's speculation that this will be a sort of trilogy, where the first movie is Dragonball, the second is Dragonball Z, and the third Dragonball GT.

Re: No...NOOO!!!

From the trailer, the martial arts seem impressive but what about the plot and the story??

they're just trying to find the dragonballs before piccolo does.

Re: No...NOOO!!!

Eww GT. I don't count GT as part of the series.... And IMO when you compare the fighting in the movie to the fighting in the show, its not nearly as good. Even in Dragonball, the fighting was extremely fast paced and with Ki blasts. But thats not happening here because its a lot more slowed down, so it sorta loses some of the super powered strength. And the Ki blasts don't look right either.... They look like shockwaves. =/

yeah only two good things that came out of GT was Baby Vegeta and SS4. at least for me. the black-star dragonballs was a cool idea, along with the red shenron.

The only way it WOULD be DBZ is if there was Vegeta. Can't have a Goku without a Vegeta.
(Did you know Saiyajin *Japanese word for saiyan* means Vegetable, so each saiyan character had a name that had to do with food? Vegeta=Vegetable, Kakarot=Carrot)

Re: No...NOOO!!!

I thought that was funny. I know some Japanese...don't ask about the other three languages. AND NO, SPANISH IS NOT ONE OF THEM. Not everyone in the US speaks it you know.

Some may run a short while, but none of them would bide.

Re: No...NOOO!!!

I know I dont speak spanish either!

I never insult the person who likes what they like. Thats your right. But.....

Maybe its my generation. These shows weren't on and around untill i was almost out of HS. I watched different shows...

Re: No...NOOO!!!

DBZ is the only Japanese show I like.

And I find it to be great that they're making a movie. I've been keeping tabs on it for quite some time, and I saw the trailer in the movie theater just the other day.

Re: No...NOOO!!!

I'm not into anime. Just a little in manga.

Some may run a short while, but none of them would bide.

Re: No...NOOO!!!

Actually, there was anime airing here back then. They were just extremely unknown because;

A: They aired at stupid early times in the day. I had a friend back in elementary school who would get up at 5 everyday in order to get ready for school in time to sit back and watch Sailor Moon at 6 am. Which brings me to point two....
B: NOT all anime is meant for elementary school kids. Even then, there was anime that had to be severly edited to air on TV, and moreso to make it for kids, because "only cartoons are for kids". My friend was several years to young to be watching Sailor Moon, uncut or even semi cut. To her mind, two of the characters really were just close "cousins".
C: Anime, for some reason, was just considered to be taboo at the time. I really have no idea why this was. But, parents just wanted their kids to only watch good ole fashioned American cartoons, I guess. Odd considering many now classics weren't really meant for kids. But yeah, I remember when the Pokmon anime first started to air here. It had a decent time slot, but as for editing...thats another story (even for a kids show it was edited a lot). Anyways, I remember hearing how some parents didn't let their kids watch it because "Its not an American made show! I don't trust it!" No reason not to trust it except, it wasn't a US made show. And it was purely a kids show as well, none the less!

It was at this time actually, with Pokemon and Dragonball Z (which, in its purest form, was a family show originally) becoming very popular, did people realise that anime can actually be sucessful in America, and finally make an effort to bring it over and dub it.

And thats the end of my rather long (I have ten minutes of your life now! Mua ahahahaha!) post. Thats all I have to say....cept stay away from 4Kids.

Re: No...NOOO!!!

hah, yeah, definitely stay away from 4Kids. i watched a Japanese sub of Pokemon: The Movie.

i can never watch the US dub ever again.

not only that, but the original shows are made for a Japanese person's mindset. over there in Japan, it's nothing uncommon to see drugs or sex or extreme violence in the real world, so they figure that incorporating it in their tv shows makes it seem more realistic.

Thats not necessarily true. Porn is actually illegal there.

Re: No...NOOO!!!

Not quite. Porn is far from illegal. It's just illegal to show realistic...uh...non mentionables, so its censored by law. But I belive there are non censored versions.

And 4Kids ruined the Kirby of the Stars dub. DX

Re: No...NOOO!!!

HA! Sailor Moon. I used to love that show. A friend (ok he was Asian, Chinese though not Japanese) and I used to get so excited at the concept of cartoon network. ( they're the ones that played my sailor moon) Cartoons any time of day?? Until 1995 that was UNHEARD of around here.

What exactly did the Jap sub entail?

Re: No...NOOO!!!

Yeah, in Japan, just because it's cute, or it's a cartoon, doesn't mean it's innocent or for kids. EVERYONE in Japan loves Hello Kitty, which is great for kids cause it teaches them manners and stuff. Don't tell, but I love Hello Kitty... big_smile

Some may run a short while, but none of them would bide.

Re: No...NOOO!!!

Actually, Hello Kitty was made originally to teach girls and women how to behave: be silent, and cute. Not making it up either....

There are quite a few differences between "Mewtwo Strikes Back" and "Mewtwo's Counterattack". The 4Kids dub removed all the original music and replaced it with their own "because it'd better suit an western audience". It doesn't. There were periods of silent in the movie that made it dramatic. Now there are hardly any times when there wasn't music playing. Not to mention the MAJOR script difference. In America, Mewtwo is bent on WORLD DOMINATION OH NOEZ. But Mewtwo wasn't interisted in that at all originally. He only meant to get back on those who hurt him. He didn't like humanity, but he wasn't going to mess with it either. Another big difference is the opening of the actual feature. In America, we can barely hear Mewtwo whispearing something, because the narrator is talking loudly. In the orginal version, you can hear what Mewtwo is saying and it works better, without the narrator. "Where is this? Who am I? I am dreaming of a place that does not exist in my memory.... *a flash of Mew is seen* Huh? Wait! *Mew flies away* Am I a part of you? Or not...?" That is how the opening goes yes I am pathetic for memorising it.... I could go on for hours.
