Re: Bf/Gf

Man. I am tired today... why you may ask.. and why on earth are you saying it here in this thread? Its all because my BF spent all night texting me. Which I guess should be a good thing, because they were of the best kind of messages filled with "beautiful's", "miss you's" and "wish you could just be here with me all the time's", but at one point I was "Ok sweetie. I am going to sleep..." and he still sent more text. It seemed like as soon as I would dose off, there was another. I love him very much so, and it hurts me that I am slightly annoyed by this. Am I wrong to be so here?

Re: Bf/Gf

I think not. I mean, I just loove to text my gf for the first month or so, but I grow tired of it later on.
It's not that I grow tired of the girl, just the texting part. Dunno, I've never been in love for real, don't really know  how it's like, but things aren't what they used to be, after a while. The thrill is gone, as the fear that i might lose them. When we're settled, I usually become a bit of a pragmatist and not that romantic.
Uh, I just hope it happens to all of you and that I'm not that bad a person!

Ah Thanks terra and NB. I feel better about it now. The txting ended up with a misscommuntication which resulted in the BF comming out to see me and we spent the day together. That makes me big_smile. It was great and something I think we both needed. It seems like he's txting me more than when we first started dating... and I think thats sweet.

And T I know exactly what you mean tongue

Sometimes there is confusion of focus. I get that way in the darkroom or painting studio sometimes. Its nothing against you T. If he shows that kind of dedication in one area of life...

And I know it's nothing bad on his part, I just miss him, in real. And it's a long time I didn't invest myself so much into something like he does, so I might be a little envious as well. I don't know if age is what made me lose that ability to "get into" stuff.

I used to really love arts and working on creative projects. But it seems like school is making me do so much of it in a so short time, that I kinda get turned off. Gotta say, having teachers giving me just negative feedback about my work isn't helping either.

.

Lord I know how that goes. Its almost as if somoetimes they want to break your love and spirit for the visual arts. Negative critism can be helpful...if they pair it with something positive. I mean i guess there are a few projects they must see that don't have ANYTHING good... but I have seen your work and that is not your case. Your professors are just jerks. At this point I would take negative critism form my one professor because I haven't had ANY indication of where I stand in his class (Advanced Painting).

For the female members in here, my girlfriend is desperate to lose weight (and i dont know why shes not fat but shes not skinny) and she uses laxatives after she eats and she wont believe me when i told her that they mess with your system.... so any ideas how i can convince her to see reason?

Laxatives will only make you lose water, nothing else. And yeah, since you lose water, they can deshydrate you so it's NOT a good idea at all. To lose fat/weight, there's no miracle... gotta have more out than in. Which means, leave the computer once in a while. Also, have lots of water, lots of fruits and veggies, less sugar, less fat, and try to avoid alcohol. And... exercise.
tongue

Hope that helps.

exess use of laxatives can also cause •Hypokalemia   Ã¢Â€Â“Decreased blood plasma potassium levels (depressed appetites, heavy sweating, chronic vomiting or diarrhea, EXCESSIVE USE OF LAXATIVES, aldosterone hypersecretion, alkalosis)
–Muscle weakness, loss of tone, depressed reflexes, irregular electrical activity of the heart
that does help slightly terra but it doesn thelp with getting her to see  reason...

I am sorry she feels that way. I know many times I myself have felt similar to how you describe she does. Skinny is something i envy, and dream about. I feel self concious when I try to look nice because I fear looking like a ridiculous fat person trying to hard. Skinny is not something I think I'll ever have, especally in my family. I've felt better about myself in the time I've been on this site, partly because of my BF. He almost never fails to complement me on "how cute I look", say that I am "beautiful", and tells me that size doesn't matter. He's told me when I have expressed my body missgivings that i am "far from fat" and that it doesn't matter to him. That made me so happy to be accepted by someone that it started to make me cry. I think If you just talk to her calmly and lovingly, say how you are worried about her health, and reassure her what you think about her physically that could go far in bolstering her self esteem.  There are no quick fixes, but keep saying nice things to her, and try not to nag too much and that could turn her around. Maybe offer to go to the gym together.

For Gods sake....tell her that my cousin did that and ended up in critical care at a hospital, and now has psychological issues.  It dosen't work.  Ever.  I would suggest getting her away from the crowd she usually hangs with for a while.  They are probably putting pressure on her, even if it is unintentional, and it is causeing her to feel like she needs to lose weight.   I know that a lot of times having a bunch of people around you obsessing over their weight will actually stress you into thinking that you should be worried about it, even though it isn't a problem.

Just my 2 cents....

Worse things on a woman's physical self esteem are raw critics and jealousy. Raw critics make you feel like you may as well stop trying, it will never do anyway, while jealousy makes you become afraid of being "too beautiful" and can lead to try to be less attractive. In a way or another it's NOT healthy.

It's just too good for a woman to feel attractive. It's part of her "basic weapons" in life. You can get more out of life and people if you're confident in yourself. Men get confidence out of what they do, but for a woman it's often not enough.

The only thing I can think of is showing her what others say about her approach to losing weight.

Unfortunately the best way to lose weight is slowly. That way it stays off.

By eating healthily, walking more and taking regular exercise should do it much better than laxatives.

I lost weight when I ate well, walked at least 10,000 steps a day and did yoga most nights.

Good luck.

Re: Bf/Gf

How did you have the patience to count 10,000 steps? I'd lose interest round 20 or 30. tongue

Anyway, I'm usually about 122-126 on my weight. I still feel fat, though. I figure no matter how thin I am I'll always be fat to me. I don't stress about it too much, I still eat stuff like candy and ice cream. Just not very often. I do eat more during the winter seasons when there's candy-holidays. But during the summer I rarely eat candy. I try to be healthy on food but I'm not too concerned about it. I exercise enough at work I don't feel I have to do it any other time. I am trying situps to remove the belly though. I've just started so no real results yet. On my days off when I'm shopping I park my car far away from the door. Sure it's sometimes annoying to walk that far, but it IS exercise...

A lot of why I feel ok about the belly (the only real fat part of me) is because my fiancee thinks I'm beautiful and tells me this at least once a day, often a lot more. Sometimes I say I feel fat so that he'll tell me I'm pretty as a confidence booster.

So I would agree with the person up there that just telling her she's beautiful to you, and a bit of encouragement would work well.

Re: Bf/Gf

Hehe Miba tongue I had a pedometer which counted how many steps that I walked (I used it a lot so that even though it is broken i can take an educated guess at how many steps i have walked when I have been to the shops, taken my eldest to nursery etc)

It is easier when I have to take my eldest to nursery as that gets me out.

I think I can walk 10,000 steps in about 2 hours (I could probably cut the time down if I ran some of it) but that is based on a brisk walk) usually though I get the steps by walking the long way to get to places and getting out and about at any opportunity.

I found by walking that much is really good for me. I do not like the gym or running a lot so that is perfect for me to help keep me fit big_smile

That is understandable for you Terra. I was the same after I had my younglings.

Re: Bf/Gf

I'm sorry but to me running is the worst.  I cannot stand it.  Because of the fact it is so boring.  Music helps but not  much.  I really suggest geting involved in some sports.  Take for example badminton is the best.  When playing against good people or if you really try it is a good work out.  Supposedly you run twice as much as you do in tennis.  Lacrosse is also a fun one for me.

And I do realize that that there are a lot of people out there who may not be the most coordinated.  I guess 10 years of baseball des help a litte.  tongue

Anyway basically what I'm saying is find something you enjoy doing that gives you a good workout.  For you this may be something like running.  To each his own.

I llike running . In fact I have put in about eight marathons in my lifetime and about to aim for the ninth. Not that I have a greyhound-like runner's body, I am 5'8" and about 150 lbs right now. So you're doing pretty darn good Miba.
