Topic: The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 1

In anticipation of the show about to drop in six hours, here's a place to discuss all things before, during, and after it airs.

Spoiler alert ahead.

Here's what we know in advance.

1. This bartender on what appears to be Tatooine will make an appearance.

https://www.bobafettfanclub.com/boards/img/m/2/p1elrgs2jm11kda2ilc3ucjber3.jpg

2. While IMDb shows Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett for this episode, IMDb is user editable and therefore not a perfect source for film/television content that's in the future. (It's great for things that have aired/premiered already.)

Related, Temuera Morrison's updated CV (aka resume) was linked up on his agency's website. See https://www.bobafettfanclub.com/news/fi … is-resume/ for more about that more-reliable source, which follows the report in May 2020 from The Hollywood Reporter that Temuera was cast in the show.

3. In some of the teasers, some fans noticed a familiar shape and smudge of colors. See https://www.bobafettfanclub.com/news/fi … s-speeder/ for the breakdown of what's there, which may or may not be shown more in this episode.

4. This first episode is written by Jon Favreau. This was confirmed on the Writer's Guild of America (WGA) website, which we shared at https://twitter.com/bobafettfanclub/sta … 590096384. We don't yet know which director is taking the helm.

Re: The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 1

So much to address right off the bat.

Cobb Vanth rumor was correct. "Aftermath" trilogy's familiar armor was Boba Fett's.

https://www.bobafettfanclub.com/boards/img/m/2/p1els9256qmj61t0c22n1kt718q33.jpg

In the speeder bike shot, jetpack/helmet sighting was correct. Jetpack "gash" all patched up. Shot was reversed horizontally in the trailer but correct in the show.

Did the helmet seem a little off, like a cheaper cosplay/toy one?

Temuera Morrison as a "nomad" at the end, keeping an eye on things from a distance.

Presuming this is Boba Fett, as rumored/reported, then this means now in the current canon he has survived the Sarlacc after it being open ended.

Is it me or was the speeder made from Anakins podracer engine?

A warrior is more than their armour

Re: The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 1

I am so happy to finally see Cobb Vanth in live action, played by the actor that inspired him no less! His character design was spot on, I was concerned he would be too like Fett but he's distinct enough - I feel - to avoid those comparisons. I was happy that Vanth didn't get killed right off in a confrontation with Djarin - as that's how it looked like it was going for a minute there. Here's hoping for more Vanth-related stories and merchandise!

There was so much Tatooine lore explored in this episode - from the Krayt dragon, to the Tuskens, to the Sarlacc and whether or not Fett survived. It really demonstrated how this show is the perfect synthesis of new material and 'Legends' lore.

Re: The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 1

As Mando entrance the bar, there was the same spures soundeffekt like Boba? So it was also Cobb Vanth in the desert in Season 1?

Re: The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 1

Thanks for the high-res pic of (presumably) Boba!!! I bet that it probably is him because it wouldn't make sense for it to be a clone (like how in Return of the Jedi the old man is said to be Rex or something). The episode was awesome, and like CorrellianJoe_92 said, all the lore explored in this episode was so interesting, I loved being able to point out the behaviours of the dragon and the raiders.

Hi, I'm a Boba and Jango Fett fan that really loves Star Wars. I'm not too active, but I'm happy to join in discussions.

Re: The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 1

Happy to finally see Boba again!
I like the nomad look but I'm not a big fan of the physical appearance.

Wish Boba had some eyebrows and some hair but let's be honest, being in the sarlacc for that long probably did a number to him lol

I can't help but think Boba is getting lined up as a villain for season 2.

He may be a villain for an arc, but I'm not so sure. I'm hoping he becomes a big player though.

Re: The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 1

The first episode of The Mandalorian Season 2 is finally out, and what a way to premiere! We have seen many things and, among them… Boba's armor and, most likely, him too!
But, let's go part by part: When Din went to Tatooine he found the "Mandalorian" that he was looking for, who turned out to be Cobb Vanth who was wearing an armor that has proved to be very familiar to us... Nothing less than the armor of Fett. According to him, he bought it to some Jawas, after the Mining Collective attacked Mos Pelgo when the Empire fell down. He was forced to flee from there as soon as possible and, after days on the road, he met the Jawas, and then, he got the armor. So, probably, the Jawas found Boba's armor not long after the empire fell or even before it did.
Once he got the armor, he kicked the collective out of town, and here is where comes the scene of Boba's jetpack missile in action. Personally, I loved seeing this, and I’m sure that I’m not the only one.
Once we know why Cobb has Boba's armor, let's go back to the main plot. Din and Vanth stroke a deal. He would give him the armor in exchange for helping him defeat the krayt dragon, which posed a great threat to Mos Pelgo. In addition, they would have the help of the Sand People and the habitants of Mos Pelgo.
The plan to kill the dragon was based on attacking its abdomen, which is its only weak point. To achieve this, they had to lure it out of the cave and, when it had left enough, attack it with explosives previously placed under the ground.
But, obviously, it was not going to be that easy. The explosives were useless. They had to attack him internally, in other words, introduce the explosives inside his body, since his shell was too hard. So Mando and Cobb used their jetpacks to get his attention. I have to say that I also loved this detail. Even though Cobb isn't Boba, I find it amazing to see his armor in action. And of course, seeing Din again is a pleasure.
Once they had the krayt's attention, Din mustered all his ingenious once more: he grabbed one of the Banthas that was carrying explosives, and let the dragon to gulp them down, so he could came out of his interior with the jetpack and make it explode with the detonator. The dragon is no match for Mando haha!
As a man of prayer, Cobb handed the armor over to Din. And here not only the end of the chapter is approaching, but also the most shocking moment of all that has left us amazed and expectant. The man who appears while Din is leaving with the speeder. This just makes me think that we are one step closer to seeing the best bounty hunter in the galaxy on screen once again. Although, technically, we already have.

Nice summary! I really liked Cobb Vanth, I hope to see more of him in the future

Re: The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 1

Lots of nice nods to older lore, like R5-D4 again, Anakin's pod racer engine being used for the speeder bike, and the Krayt Dragon pearl.  It's nice to finally see an "official" version of what a Krayt Dragon looks like.  I never read the new Aftermath books, but it's neat how they even tied Cobb Vanth and the armor he got in those books into the episode.  It was pretty much hinted at very heavily in the books that it was Fett's armor left beside the Sarlacc that the Jawa's had scavenged.

Boba Fett showing up at the end was just icing on the cake.  The only thing that will be cooler in future episodes will be if we find out he's been operating under the name "Jaster Mereel" since ROTJ to keep his identity hidden.  That would be exactly the kind of fan service I've come to expect from Filoni and Favreau, when it comes to older or obscure expanded universe lore.  So, keeping my finger's crossed on that one.

Boba Fett French, ah, you are correct. Just reviewed it. Different mountain range, but same journey no doubt given the cargo placement.
