So I started building a helmet about a week ago from some mat board I found at AC Moore. I just started spray painting at the moment and I finally took some pictures. I am also working on the armor, but that is gunna have to wait until the helmet is done.
Wow, thats cool! And now I must make mine because I feel that I'm being left behind with all the costumes :P

It's called mat board. It's like a stiffer, thicker version of poster board. That plus some hot glue and an x-acto knife.
you got the shape down almost perfectly--better than some of the helmets you buy......

Just a few touch ups on the paint job and It's done. (I decided to create a non-damaged style helmet, mostly because I don't want to screw it all up with the crappy scarring job I'd probably do.)

Wow. I am impressed. I am fully acquainted with mat board, use it all the time to mat my fiber prints and such. But I am in awe that a sheet of the stuff could ever be made to remote be the shape of a helm, let alone so well shaped. I am curious as to HOW with a excato and mat board such a thing was made.

I am curious as to HOW with a excato and mat board such a thing was made.
Patience, excessive measuring, a lot of luck, and some finagling. Also a lot of time was spent on the Dented Helmet sifting through their topics.

A lot of gluing was done, and I used a hot glue gun. Pretty much each color is its own piece of mat board. The red part is all one piece, and the dome is strips of matboard covered in spackle. Then I used lightweight spackle and sandpaper to smooth out the edges.
