Topic: Chat room developments/off topic banter solutions

The mods have been talking about what to do with magor off topic chatter such as Atinvod and Kara-chan, and that strange bit about Qui-gon's chin for example.
A few ideas mentioned

1. Chat room (Aaron's idea)
2. Off topic topic (True Warrior)
I don't have many of my own, but, any good ideas would be great.

(In any rate, any time the mods go over something, I'll usually ask the other member's on matters like these.)

The off topic topic would be easier to moderate, I think.  It could be put in the FANS section of the boards.  We used to have a chat room a long time ago.  Every time I would log on there, though, there was never anyone on it.  It was one of those types you could log on to anytime of the day.  However, for more participation, we could have certain times where it is set aside for a particular group discussion or something of the like.

True, I was thanking you for giving the idea of starting an off topic topic. And yes you were slightly involved with Atinvod and Kara-chan's conversation. Don't be so worried, look back on it and notice I never said anything about you being off topic. Calm down.

I think Off Topic would be better. It was terribly hard to catch anyone in the chatroom as you say, Sadriel.

Although, I don't think moderating would be that much of a problem with the people we have. After all, from what I hear, we can change the time when it's open and closed depending. I trust I can Trust people. Plus, Aaron mentioned a seperate set of rules for a chat board we could have.

Noone would be on at the same time in a chat room.....

Anyway, I know that Kara-Chan and I would much apprechiate (sp?) either an off topic thread or a chat room.

It would be very cool if we had a time set for all of the members to get on a chatroom. It would be much easier to hold a conversation then.

Ditto.  I've been on here when several others are online, so it would definitely be possible to manage.

Kinda like on AIM where you can either have a Private conversation, or invite some peeps to join in on a chat room. That would be so sweet! :D

And as the admin mentioned, We now have a chat room. I'm not too knowledgeable on the details but it's coming soon. Still testing at this stage, but it looks good for the most part. I'm a little excited about it I guess.

We're actively developing a fast (AJAX), hosted (BFFC address), sustainable (good) chat "box" for those who might be on at the same time. We would need a lot more traffic to make it more immediate.

I can't imagine a chat working here. At my main forum home we had a chat, but not many people went into it (though granted it didn't help that the creepiest member was ALWAYS in there), and there we tend to have 5 people on at a time. So a chat wouldn't be for us.

I don't really like shoutboxes for conversations either. They don't hold many comments at a time, and its hard to have a conversation if you can only see a few at a time.

I personally think an off topic topic would be good.

This site gets 20,000 unique visitors a month, or about 700 a day. (Total pageviews, thanks to the fans of this fan club, get us up to nearly 3,500 pages per day; that's about 5 pages per visit throughout all of BobaFett.com.) Most are from the United States, mostly in the East, South, and Midwest than the West. So, I can imagine it working. We also attract a pretty diverse, intelligent crowd; I bet some of the chats could be fairly good. Focusing on quality conversations and connections would be my motivation for its development, not just to have one for the sake of TrueWarrior.

The Koopatorivm, where I belong to, easily gets a large number of visitors per day (don't know exact number since the admins haven't checked it recently due to reworking the site), most at the same time as eachother, and the chat failed miserably. Though granted I think Mr. Creepy person being in there all hours of the day didn't help, as stated before.

Our new chat room is open for chit chat. :)

I'll be posting some common times throughout the site and the boards (that work for our U.S., Europe, and Oceania visitors) to make it easier for regulars to chat.

Ok, just wanted to say that the chatroom is now subject to guests who think it is funny to impersonate members of our site. I saw more than 1 person get offended and I saw many many things that should not be seen on this forum. So I was wondering if thee is a way to keep the guests out and make sure that you can only talk as you username...

Yeah, no one uses the name Gustavo. NO ONE. You should only be able to chat with your actualy name, or if you're visiting, then number the guests. ( guest 1, guest 2, etc)

Ok just a quick little thing.  I am curious as to when we can expect the "Who's Online" Feature in the chat room will be working.  Sorry if I sound pushy.

How funy of you.  My feats of aquatiquadiquackicism were very entertaining to my other half. 

But the time that seems good is around 9-10 PST.  In other words 9-10 on the western coast of the US and Canada.  That is when certain moderators come on and "stir up the pot."

I have an idea for the chat room. Have it in the board index above general, so people can talk and see the most recent responses to threads.

have you not noticed that when you are in the chat room, the most recent topics that have been posted on appear on the right side of the page?  I do wish the times would be more accurate and that people would stop "spamming" in the chat room, but other than that, no complaints here :D

yeah but not everyone does, and its annoying when somebody is on but you cant talk to them because they dont know your in the chat room. If we have it on the forum/thread selection it will happen less often.

Perhaps, Maybe having the currently in chat room feature up and about might help that.

Well sometimes they don't have time. Or they don't want to talk. I usually open the chatroom anyways, just incase someone I want to talk to gets on.

......And it would be cool for the members to appear near the bottom right corner of the screen. :)
