Topic: New Feature: Reputation/Karma points

Like eBay. Like other message boards. Like life. You can get praise, you can get criticism. But, by making a game out of it, just like post counts and stars, your incentive is to raise your reputation up.

You can + and - others for any reason, but when you give them praise/smite, you and everyone else knows it's you plus you have to give a reason. If you give a point to someone (1 per person limit), they might return the favor as you post replies or start new topics.

You can also turn off the feature, so no one can rate you, but you can't rate others if you do so. (To do so, click "Profile" at the top, then click "Display" on the left, and note the new form at the bottom, "Display of reputation.")

I like this idea. It seems like fun, as long as no one abuses it or anything.

Just one question: Will the Negative points be shown as well?

Thylacine, good points. Negative points should subtract one from the total number, and on the detailed view, show the individual split.

I meant comments, not points. ^^;

Thylacine, no worries. Yes, all comments are shown if you click "reputation/karma" below someone's username. The number can be less than zero.

Thats a pretty cool Feature. I like it, makes it so if I do somthing wrong, I can know what I did, or sothing like that.

I don't mind it. I try not to screw things up and I try to add things in a positive manner. I just worry about it becoming a popularity contest because I never do well with those things. ( I was a geek even then.)

Or they really just don't like you.

Since it takes a little effort and there's a time delay on repeat "+" or "-" of someone, we'll see if anyone racks up a lot of negatives before either changing their approach or giving up all together.

Of course, if someone is spamming/flaming someone, that's a different case and we take those reports seriously.

If you look under each person's name you'll see a Reputation/Karma link. Hit the Green Plus box to add or the Red Minus box to take away. This will take you to a window where you can post a comment and then submit the point. Hope that helps ;)

I've noticed there are a number of members giving rep/karma points for no real reason. This isn't a popularity contest. It's merely to let people know when you think they've done something good or something not so good...

I have to admit I'm not very fond of the Karma system... most of the users who have a lot of Karma seem to get it from posting mostly in the RP forum... *cough* >_>;

Then again, I'm probably a bit bitter 'cause I only have 3 points when I've been here for several years... T___T

i've only given out a few karma points, but they were worth it. (at least i feel so)

Oh, fine, but I think it was given for an ok reason. There are others who have been given them for realy stupid reasons. One I saw was for 'never being on' now how would you feel if you got that?

I really like the Rep. system.  The rank/star thing doesn't say anything about a person other then just they are *or aren't* active on the boards.  Checking a person's +'s and -'s in Rep tells you if they have anything interesting to say; and gives you a link to what that interesting thing was  *can also tell you a lot about the person who GAVE the + or -; if they're a flamer or something.*

All in all, I think it's a great feature and I hope it's here to stay

Same. lol I think there should be more rewarding with the karma  and not so much random giving.

A simple question, perhaps asked before, but who can delete/edit the Karma points of a user?
Admin and the Mods, I guess?

Delete? Yes, any moderator. Edit? Yes, but only me.

Then why are certain reputation points of certain users deleted in silence?

Terron, I don't know the full extent of the plug-in for this, but I'd guess right off the bat that members can edit the karma points they've given.
