Topic: BFFC Upgrades: Avatar Upload/Selection

We're rolling out a new feature that both allows you to upload your own avatar (which has already been a feature) alongside the ability to choose from some pre-made ones.

This feature for BFFC members can be found on your new profile, linked in the header near the logout button. Then it's a new link called "Change Avatar."

Default avatars are a B&W Fett from ROTJ. We'll be adding more pre-made ones.

Give it a try. Post any/all feedback, including any technical issues you may have.

A technical problem, unless I somehow missed some step:
All I tried to do was upload a new avatar.
I'd select the image and then click "Upload" and it wouldn't change. It still remains my old one on this new profile.
So I tried editing from the old "Edit Profile/Edit Avatar page" and it did change it there but it did not change it on the new profile.
I even tried deleting it from the old avatar edit page, then re-uploading the new one and all it would do is show my new one on the old edit avatar page, but it would restore the old one on the new profile/edit avatar page.
A little help or insight would be appreciated. Thanks. :-)

Well, what d'ya know! In this forum it shows my new avatar, but not on my new profile. So I'm thinking, technical problem/bug?

Edit: Scratch that, I guess.
It finally occurred me to clear the cached images from my browser. But please note that may just be a coincidence and not the solution.

Good feedback! Will add a server-side "cache buster." Each avatar gets re-saved in different sizes and sometimes -- without some extra programming -- it's not always immediate. Hope to have that fixed soon. Thanks!

Update: should be fixed now.

It allows me to upload an image but won’t show it anywhere to select it tried several times with no luck, not complaining just giving a heads up

I can help. I see it on the server. Will work to handle .jpeg vs. jpg and also compress the 1.5mb image. Good feedback and good bug to fix -- thanks!

Good idea! So many to choose from. https://www.bobafettfanclub.com/multimedia/galleries/9978/ is a great, newer rendering, too. Cropping to just the helmet would be neat.

i may be missing something, but i was trying out several of my own avatars but i can't seem to make it visible on the forums or on the top of the page where it shows i'm logged in??? several attempts later, still won't show up correctly. on my profile, it shows, but not on the forums or anywhere else. how long does it usually take to recognize the new avatar?

If you're on mobile, those devices cache things more aggressively so even though the file is new, it'll show the old. If you're not on a mobile device, it should "bust" through the cache sooner even without any tricks to it. But will investigate further, to ensure when you change the image yourself that all the thumbnail size variants clear out. Some may be stuck, and that's on our end to fix.

OK, good to know you're seeing it on a non-mobile device. Will track it down and squash the bug... :-)
