Topic: My comic creations

I have made some comic book characters in my artist life in three years

Tim the Thing

John

Moustache'

Pillow

-------------------------------------------------------------

Tim The Thing is a British Geography teacher that has six orphan children. He has an eye laser and uses it when ppl get on his nerves. He has lots of adventures round Britain and the world. He went to America and met Pillow there in one of my comics. LOL*

John is a 13 year old British kid who has an annoying tv, called TV. LOL. TV demands a weekend in one John comic and John is stunned that his TV talks. Then he gets kicked in the screen later on and is alone outside John's garden. Staring into John's living room window on the lawn, my brother, lewis, finds this hilarious. In future comics, John and TV fall out and brawl when John takes his friends out for a picnic. TV blows up. In the past few days, I re-did John and made it again**

TV gets hit by lightning and is reincarnated as the same person and brawls with John once again, but is killed again, by John's blaster pistol. ( I am currently working on future comics )

Moustache' is a British moustache that has a wife and two children. The main plot of Moustache' ( the comic ) is him getting told off by his boss and randomly warping cool places. He is very funny, but spits at his boss one time and is sent outside the office saying

" hee hee hee, I'll get demoted.... "

" Ohh, wait. That's a bad thing!! "

lolz

he then is edited with tears at my comic book character ( me ) hand. he shoots me, and I apparently " die "

then he goes for a burger, etc etc etc..... tongue

Pillow.

Pillow is a humourous American pillow that tries to dominate the world. His owner is called Jacob. He then has adventures of taking over the world, but fails occasionally. He kills or knocks out his enemies by launching himself at their face and smothering them until oxygen is low. ( horrible, I know hmm )

then later on in the future comics, he absorbs a Swedish janitor and destroys the Stockholm airport.

( working on the next comics, folks! Stay tuned! )

* - Tim the thing went to america, and randomly met Pillow. It was funny!! XD

** - John was not made again for some good months until I re-made more comics.

Re: My comic creations

Comics usually mean pictures. Where's your visual?

Cast iron and treadmills? Oh yes. Still sculpting me to what I really want to be, and I love it. :)

Re: My comic creations

Yeah, great ideas but let's see some art man. And hey clean out your inbox. I have sent you like  a million PMs and it always tells me that you are full.

Shouldn't this go in the Creative section?

Carry on my wayward son!

Re: My comic creations

sorry.......

I can't get good pictures on my mobile phone camera sad

So, the picture will be blurry

it's hardly art. My art is rubbish. I will have to get better to becoming an artist. hmm tongue

Don't talk like that. Some say MY art is rubbish. All artists get that, we all meet people who say our stuff sucks. Guys like Jim Davis (Garfield) or the guys at Marvel did thousands of drawings before getting to the quality of work that they got. And there's still people to say that THEIR stuff is rubbish. That's how it is. You can't please everyone.

Becoming good takes time and work, and you gotta be stubborn and not let others discourage you. And that's the hardest part of it all.

A mobile phone at your age? Nice, lol. Wish I had the money to offer some to my kids that soon. tongue

Re: My comic creations

First rule of art-showing: if even you think it's crap, do not show it. Doing so will destroy your spirit.

If you want to become better - and if you know you can do better - then work your butt off. Use self-criticism, imagine you NEVER saw what you just made and look at the details and aspects that need improvement.

When I was your age I copied all the pictures I thought were cool (using transparent paper and the likes) and hardly ever "created" my own stuff. I was far too ashamed of my crappy skills (although all the other kids at school asked me to do their art assignments). Being totally unable to draw things without reference I waited until my twenties to actually teach myself real drawing lessons.

And now I'm a fan art producing machine. I still lack the drive and ego to create a comic book (who am I kidding? I'm just LAZY). But you have the ideas and the material, and obviously you're not ashamed to let us know that.

Get your skills boosted up, then use a scanner to get decent pictures online. This might take time but it's for the best.

Good luck.

It's even more a good time for that as you don't have deadlines forcing you to show what you could come up with in the week. Sometimes it IS crap and you HAVE to show something but in your situation you have all the time you want to work and re-work on your stuff.

Re: My comic creations

thanks terra, Daenna.

I have made about 50 comics altogether. I think they are good, but sometimes the ink on the speech bubbles smudge and the writing gets so tiny when the edge of the speech bubble closes.

I'm annoyed with that, and I hate it. But I admire my comics, and will not stop making them.

The thing is, I can't draw properly, horses, cows and human faces are the worst art I can do.... sad

Here is Tim The Thing as a short ten-second animation made by my Stepdad, Thomas.

also, TTT, is trademarked to me......... well in my comics anyway. Even if someone does copy it, it may not be a good as their " creation "

apart from terra, Ralin and other great artists around the world that may make it manga version.

Also, I created, Pillow, John and Moustache'

Re: My comic creations

Uh, your link isn't a working one... you need to like upload to photobucket or something.

Also, I'm a little interested in Pillow; just because he's American and I like to see foreign views of us.

As long as they're not as cheesy as my junior high school stick figure comics, you should be good. Of course, I also got better at drawing.

Re: My comic creations

Thanks Green for the compliment. I don't think I'm great, but I try. I hope you'll have fun trying too.

Something that might help you in your visual story telling effort is a book by one of the best and mostly highly regarded pros in the filed.

The book is called, "Comics and Sequential Art" and it was written by Will Eisner. A lot of modern or younger readers who are unaware of the history of comics don't know who this guy is but he literally "wrote the book" on how to tell a story graphically. Even if people are unaware that they are using his techniques many people are doing things now that he started back in the 1930s.

Another good place to turn for drawing instruction, beyond the web.

Is the book "Dynamic Figure Drawing" by Burne Hogarth. Again he is a giant in the field, to those who know better. He has done every kind of comic book, comic strip and graphic novel ever thought of. He became famous in the 30s for his newspaper comics but went on to teach "fine" art. His insight is invaluable when it comes to rendering the human figure.

Sadly, both of these greats have passed on. I was lucky enough one year to literally "bump" into Will Eisner at the San Diego con. and I got him to sign a copy of one of his works,

It is always good to know something about the past of your field to understand its present condition.
