Re: Old mando canon vs the new

Yeah I only just started reading RC and then I heard that a lot of the canon was changed so the books don't work or something which I hope is not true. Are the changes really that huge?

Re: Old mando canon vs the new

Keep reading them man, they are awesome.

Re: Old mando canon vs the new

Hopefully McCoy or one of the more studied fans will see this and will be able to answer better then I can.  From my view, it seems that the cannon has been changed considerably IF the cartoons are taken seriously, as Lucas seems to be taking them.  Some say that it all can be ironed out and work together, but I'm not seeing it.  Too much of the Mandalorian cutlure, which the RC books focus and elaborate on, is getting rewritten in each of the new cartoons that focus on the Mandos.  Royalty, pacivism, Death Watch dominating the few militaristic Mandos that are left; all of this flys in the face of KT's and other's established works.  And I believe that Traviss will no longer be writing any more RC books because all her work has been trashed by this newer material.  If she thinks everything has changed to that degree, then that says a lot.

You might notice from some of the other threads that I'm not one of KT's biggest fans for supporters.  But these cartoons are a blight on everything the real Mandalorian fans love and support, and I cring at the thought that kid shows are now taking priority over serious written work in the Star Wars universe

Re: Old mando canon vs the new

I my opinion all the tv shows are a load of garbage George Lucas is just trying to make a quick buck

Re: Old mando canon vs the new

As far as I'm concerned, I will believe in the true Mandos. No cartoon is going to change my mind about them. I HATE that Lucas has chosen them to make a buck, mostly because those who have not read the RC books or the other KT books will not know how Mandos really are.
My point is that these characters can be whoever we want them to be. We don't have to subscribe to the new pacifist Mandos. They are passionate about two things: their families, and their wars smile Oya Manda!

Re: Old mando canon vs the new

I strongly dislike even the thought of what they did to the Mandalorian culture. They are warriors, not pacifists!

Re: Old mando canon vs the new

I have and always will reference back to the two original KotOR games when asked to define the true Mandalorian culture - They are the Star Wars equivalent of the Spartan culture from 300.  They live for glory gained in war.  It's as simple as that.  All these damn cartoons and prequels that blatantly trash that foundation I will continue to ignore

Re: Old mando canon vs the new

Agreed Ralin, I tend to ignore a lot of the new perspectives of Star Wars in a lot of things. It really ticked me off that a number of books written between the old and new trilogies were ruined (eg Jedi not marrying and having kids - the novel Children of the Jedi is sudden nil and void etc).

Plus the changes to Jaster Mereel - so damn confusing he was originally Boba Fett pre-bounty hunter days, then he's a totally separate Mando - grr! It may as well be random fan fiction.

KOTOR was the one thing that was awesome! big_smile

Re: Old mando canon vs the new

I agree so much! It's like random authors and creators have been given permission to write licensed fanfiction's branching off in whatever directions they please.  It's frustrating to say the least to anyone who's a true fan of certain bodies of work; rather it be original novel series that are destroyed by the prequels, videogame or comic canon that gets ignored by the kids cartoon. It's just completely out of hand.  To say that I can't reference back to an old game or an early novel series as my preferred canon because it "doesn't count anymore," I'll argue that everything new that is supposedly Canon now will just be replaced by something else in the  future.  If all of LucasArts can ignore their own material why can't I ignore those parts that destroy the stories that made me love Star Wars?
