Topic: Browse buttons dangerous to are computers?

Recently I was talking to someone over another forum, and I was asking why that particular forum didnt have a browse button because I was having trouble getting an avatar up. And he said the reason they didnt have one was because a hacker could trace it back to your hard drive, and steal information from your computer. Can anyone confirm, of deny this?

When you go to your profile you can use a browse button to locate a pic for your avatar.

Re: Browse buttons dangerous to are computers?

I know the browse button in which you speak. I have not heard anything about hackers using the links and such to get information. I'm not sure what they would find on my computer. I don't understand what and how personal info is stored in the computer.

Re: Browse buttons dangerous to are computers?

There are hacks and anti-hack solutions that invlove the uploading of files that pretend to be pictures. They are backdoors into sites such as this one, but they would not allow somebody to gain your computer's personal information because they hack the site itself not the users. The only info they can obtain this way is any information that Aaron already has.

A normal "Browse..." button shouldn't send anything to a web site until you select one or more files and some kind of submit button, which may be automatic as you close the "Browse..." window.
