Re: Jango: Worthy to be a Fett?

On Kohlma. There was a possibility, however minute, that Montross would survive. An efficiant assassin would have killed him.

Re: Jango: Worthy to be a Fett?

Uh, the Bando Gora were gonna eat him. He didn't NEED to kill Montross. But are you saying that Montross might have killed the pack of Bando Gora? Oh and that reminds me of a topic I'm gonna post. Go check it out dude. you'll know it when you see it.

Anyways the only thing I wonder is exactly why he killed Zam? For some reason I still don't get it. I would've tried to poison Obi Wan and/or Anakin. ( although things might have been worse if that had happened)

The rockets caused a huge explosion; one would have been enough.

-He hired other mercenaries to do the jobs that he was hired to do.
-He used his ten year old (roughly) as bait against ruthless anachists.
-Under his leadership, the Mandalorians fell.
-He keeps his armor much to shiny for a warrior. He would be spotted easily.
-He is too trusting, for his trade.
-He is too cockey.
-Instead of following Windu, he could have waited in the balconey, and sniped him out while the Jedi was fighting.
-He does not wear his helmet enough.

Boba was a much worse Mandalore than Jango was! Just because you wear Mandalorian armor does not make you Mandalorian! Boba only knows a few words in Mandalorian, and that's only because Mirta Gev taught him a little bit in Bloodlines. Even Darman is more Mandalorian than Boba is, so your comment on Jango's leadership skills is complete osik!

Oh yeah you're right look at Boba's leadership of the Mandalorians.

I never said that Boba was a good Mandalore or leader. Seeing as he did not lead the Mandalorians to defeat, I would say that Boba is a better leader than Jango.

The leadership alone is not does not make me hate Jango.

I do not believe that I have said Boba was a true Mandalorian.

1. I never said that Boba was a good Mandalore.
2. Jango was a poor leader, as he lead his troops to decimation, after eons of bieng victorious in battles. Jango did not control his trooops for even a year, if memory served me.

You've never read the Republic Commando series? Wow. Also, Boba never even tried to lead the Mandalorians, but Jango did. How do you know that if Boba actually tried to lead them, he wouldn't fail as bad as Jango?

I do not like the clones or the new Mandalorians.

I do not know if Boba would be any better. I'll say Jango is a better leader than Boba. I still hate him.

Re: Jango: Worthy to be a Fett?

OK gonna toss in my two cents worth here. Some of what I've read I agree with, some I don't...unfortunately not going to get into that as it would take an age-and-a-half and I'm doing this one-handed (no, not an amputantion or anything equally drastic, just tendonidis....little advice; try to avoid it, it sucks). So I'll just bring up the new thing I thought of while reading:

Jango is, if nothing else, a father who shows Boba the way to being the [add long stream of adjectives praising Boba's skills here] bounty hunter, by:

1- Being a prime example of what Not to do (i.e. kill two guards w/one rocket instead of two, when you have the chance to poison-dart a Jedi don't pass it up,  shoot them when they drop their weapon then recover dropped weapon, approach all situations w/ a cool detachment instead of being cocky, don't stick around for the opera...er execution, take the bounty then get the hell outta dodge, Don't. trust. people...especially the ones who use you as bait. ---Interesting note; Remember how Boba reacts with anger by being used as a pawn by Mr. Spider -not gonna try and mutilate his name- and Xizor? He doesn't go emotional or ridiculous, but he does react w/anger...maybe some left-over resentment of being used as bait in the past?*---, wearing silver armor is like painting a target on your back...and it makes you look rather like a twit)
2- imparting basic hunting and flight skills
3- giving his son a cool name

Not saying I'd nominate him for father-of-the-year, or that I hate him...but all in all there has to be the flawed Jango for there to be the perfected** Boba.

There's my two cents, now for a question that's semi-off-topic:
Why did Jango dive for Mace's weapon instead of using the wire-thingi-magige (can't think of the name for it...damn that's gonna bother me the rest of the day>.<) like he did in his fight with Obi-Wan?

*I know they were published out of chronological order, I'm not asking about author-based-pyschology, but purely character-based
**perfected as in best-there-ever-was, not that he never makes mistakes

Re: Jango: Worthy to be a Fett?

I agrre with the above post nearly completely. The "wire-thingi-magige" called a whip-cord. He dove for Mace's light-sabre because he needed to die at some point in the movie.

Yeah, and also because he lost his whipcord on Kamino. Obi Wan used it to land on a platform, then discarded it.
You know, if Jango had been one second faster, he might've got Mace's lightsaber.

Re: Jango: Worthy to be a Fett?

Urr you can re-load the weapons in his gauntlets. Plus the stuff about leading the Mandalorians jango should have been a much better leader since he grew up with them, Boba was obviosly not going to be a great Mandalore because he knew almost nothing of there culture. But atleast Boba thinks logically about there future.

I'm smiling because they havn't found the bodies yet. :)

Yeah but what if Jango didn't have a spare with him at the time? Besides, I know you can reload the weapons, Urr....

you'd think he'd have spare weapondry aboard the Slave for emergencies, and he certainly had time to access said hypothetical spares during the hyper-drive jump to Geonosis... On the other hand maybe Jango was stupid and didn't keep a back-up, making that yet another lesson for Boba to learn from...I'm pretty sure he'd have a spare though, its a fairly common precaution.

Yeah I thought the same thing. Too bad we can't ask Lucas about all this.

Re: Jango: Worthy to be a Fett?

Jango Fett's a pretty tough old fart, considering he loses his entire family to the Deathwatch as a boy, then his mentor Jaster Mereel to Montross' cowardice (he left Jaster behind),and the loss of his unit to the Jedi after they were framed.Being enslaved, freeing himself, freeing his armor and then taking on the Deathwatch, and eventually doing the whole bounty hunter thing.
He gives Zam the Amidala job because he doesn't do assassinations, and she owes him one as well.
He's arrogant, cocky(as his gun twirling moment is meant to show),and likes to get into the thick of things. He likes a good honest fight, and he's very "in your face" or he wouldn't ge so up close to both Obi-Wan and Mace.
Sure Boba Fett exceeds him (except in social skills),that's what every good father wants.Really if you get a chance read the AOTC novel, there are scenes there that were cut from the movie and the script.
What I like best about Jango and Boba is dispite their armor, weapons, and sometimes unusual background...They're human, basic average joes.No super human powers just their two hands and some clever thinking.

Very nicely stated, although I fail to see how Jango is an "old fart". He's only like, 39? not that old.

"Everyone has the right to be stupid, but you are abusing the privilege."

Re: Jango: Worthy to be a Fett?

Jango is suppose to be in his mid to earlier forties by AOTC back in one of the really old threads we figured it out using the SW timeline and the graphic novel "Open Seasons" more or less his age. In one of the Bounty Hunter novels Boba Fett says he older than the average hunter and it's right after ROTJ, so he's like in his mid thirties.

So by AOTC, Jango is an "old fart" as far as bounty hunter standards, in Mandalorian standards definately not. They just seem to keep on going, and going, and going.......
