Re: Anger management thread

I have five brothers and a sister.

I like The Yaujta and SciFifreak90. I respect what they have to say. I only meant the question as a joke.

Miba: I think Daenna pretty much said it. Your sister probably looks up to YOU, that's most likely why she copies you (my sister does that all the time). since you're sick of that, try and keep your interests to yourself. That way, she wont get mollycoddled for copying you.

They say that dreamers are an extinct breed. I say they're wrong.

Re: Anger management thread

smile Thanks, everyone.

Daenna, I never thought of that, that they might have been trying to give her hope. It might be possible. And, yes, she does take advantage of the situations and doesn't really care who it hurts, I don't think she ever once tried to share with the rest of us. btw, I'm 19 and she's 17. We're a lot better now, mainly cause we ignore each other for the most part. But that is a good idea, that they might have been trying to help her more. She was always more obvious in needing help, like more open about that, showing it on her face and in the way she acted. But, meh, it's mainly over, I just go on the rant about her now and then.

Re: Anger management thread

I'm glad you kind of deal with it your own way... smile But no problem if I can help with things.

I was thinking before you posted, that you should maybe have a talk with your parents about it, establish rules, draw a line that defines your "life space"... You gotta tell them that you need to feel free to do whatever you want without putting up with your little sister trying to compete with you (willingly or not), and competition screws up family relations and respect too. Also try to explicit things up and not let problems buried in for them to rise up again at the next crisis. It might sound dumb to express these things out loud, but sometimes it's necessary.

Mutual respect is very important within a family, it took me ages to achieve that with my brother - I hated him so much sometimes because his only presence around me seemed to eat up my personal goals in life... But now he's left the country and he's living abroad, and I miss him so much... Ah well. Life goes on smile Even if it got way simpler since we're not living in eachother's pockets.

Also let time play its part, which I think is what you're doing, we all grow and mature with each day so there's always hope smile

Re: Anger management thread

smile Thank you for helping.

I'm going to leave the talking for it it ever comes up again, though. I hate confrontations with people. And, yes, I think time's done a lot to make things better.

Re: Anger management thread

Confrontations suck sad There was a time when I was always about to cry whenever my parents disagreed with me but now... I guess I'm headstrong enough to actually impose my views to them, it's all about timing and precision. If you're not convinced your own self about what you want to say, don't say it. The thing is that I act first on what I want, then I talk about it.

It's like when I decided to join the army: I started gathering all the information I could last year, then little by little I gave out hints about my likes for a military life, not really saying anything about it (my parents thought I wanted to become a pro artist), until this year I was with my mom out in town and I started talking to this military officer who was promoting the army for new recruits. She was kind of surprised about all I knew already wink From then it's become an accepted decision in my family that I can consider joining the military someday.

I'm not saying that you should do the same tongue This is just an example of the process I used to let the message through to my parents. It's something that gets easier with age, I think, because up until I was 20 or something they wanted to know about most of what I was interested in, without really asking but they carried out their judgements rather bluntly. It sucked.

Re: Anger management thread

This pet peeve of mine is kind of related to the same problem, except...opposite. Completely opposite. Which is weird...but oh well.

I can't stand when people say my brother is inferior to me. We're really close in age (just a year and a half apart), but the differences between us are really shokcing to people who don't know we're related. As far as they can see, we're complete opposites, which is true to a degree, I suppose. In a societal setting, sure. At home, when no one else is around, we're the exact same person.

But in school, we're different people. I'm the quiet but brilliant kid (I don't think I'm brilliant. Everyone else seems to >_<), valedictorian, who is somehow liked by just about everybody. Respectful, minding my own business, and excelling in just about everything I do, that's me.

Jon, on the other hand, is smart, but he doesn't apply himself. He argues with the teachers, is almost universally hated among the entire school ("Chris, your brother freaks me out. I don't like him."), and is disrespectful to most of his teachers. He's very opinionated, and argues constantly about just about everything. Disruptive, annoying, he doesn't get get involved with much of anything, and if he does he loses interest quickly.

We go to the same school, so quite often teachers who have had both of us will ask our parents, "What happened between the two of them?". Most people who know both of us believe (joking, but not really) that our parents must love me more, because I'm the successful one.

But you know what? I hate that, I really do. Because while he's not successful to these people, he's his own person. He speaks out in class because he believes that the teacher's policies are unfair. He doesn't do well in school because he refuses to cater to a teacher's whims; he does what he wants. In this world, that's considered a rebellious teen, a failure, while the kid who takes it all quietly and doesn't stand up for anything is hailed as a little angel. He's an actual person, something I just can't be. It doesn't work for me. I'd love to be that way, but it's just not in me.

He has a sense of humor. He has a personality. I have neither, really, except with my very closest friends. As far as our material-oriented society goes, that's not what counts. What counts is getting a good job. But I admire his accomplishments far more than I do my own: he's more of a triumph to the human race. He is who he is and not who he's told to be. I find that amazing.

I got off track there, and it probably makes little sense. But basically, I hate it when people say I'm superior to him because of my grades, scholarships, accomplishments, whatever. His stuff may not go on a college resume, but it's what I think really counts in life. He's been my best friend my entire life, and no one's going to tell me I'm better than him. He's the coolest kid I've ever known, and I look up to him, not the other way around.

(By the way, for those who didn't know, my brother is SciFifreak90. make more sense now? tongue )

Re: Anger management thread

Gunslinger, your story does make sense smile Well, to me it does cause I can relate to it just as well.

My own bro is also the loudmouth type getting in trouble with teachers at school and so on... but I admired him too for his spirit and intelligence. I still do nowadays. He's 22 and has ended up living his own life in Sweden while I'm still at home, unemployed and depressed so... Hehe, but I understand that it's really upsetting when parents and other people talk down on your brother, your best friend. I hated the teachers in school for how they wanted to compare us (in senior year we were in the same class, which was FUN!!! but not to the teachers tongue) and they were really out to get him, even if he did a great job with term papers.

Eventually things are turning out fine for him... People who are so outgoing and smart have all their chances in life, and the more they were bullied by authority in their childhood, the more stubborn they become. And that's a great quality for success smile

(Cool to know about SciFiFreak! Tell him that he has earned my respects wink )

Re: Anger management thread

I know what you guys are talking about.

I get passing grades in all my classes. I sit in the front, or try to. My height doesn't help any. The only class I really ever speak out in is history; my favorite class. I'm the girl next door type. Never doing anything I shouldn't. One day, just one day, I go to school with black fishnets armwarmers, my Godsmack tee, and a pair of cargo shorts. Everybody flips out. Suddenly, all the teachers think that I'm doing drugs and crap. Hello? Me, the person who saw what meth did to my birth mom and what it caused her to do to me, do drugs? No. Not my style. Plus, I play rugby. I would get caught in two seconds flat. I may act retarded, but I'm not stupid.

Gunslinger: I figured you knew SciFIfreak90; I just didn't figure you were related. Cool.

Re: Anger management thread

Atin, I too noticed my teachers suddenly changed their behaviors towards me when I went from nerdy/shy to geeky/gothy/metalhead genre with Metallica and Slayer tshirts in class tongue I was being told by my history teachers for nothing (I'm not a chatter, yet she thought I was disturbing the class), and when I forgot a math paper work I was put to detention for 3 hours every week.

Imagine a 17 year old girl stuck in a small room with scumbags shouting and trying to provoke something... for three hours. That sure doesnt encourage for a sociable personality tongue

Re: Anger management thread

Same here. We were talking about the EMPs in Science. And I brought up the topic of EMP grenades that they use in StarWars, asking how he thought they worked and I got detention because I brought up a disruptive topic to the lesson. If anything, EMPs would have got people to stop drooling in class. That's when I got into my writing, in detention. lol. Daenna did you ever notice that when a teacher didn't like a kid for some odd-ball reason that they first resort to in-school-suspension?

Re: Anger management thread

I know what you mean Antinvod. All I wear is black, all I listen to is Alice Cooper and other death rock artists, and some of my teachers are suspicious of me. I get all "A"s, I am on high honor roll, I do all of the extra credit, and they do not trust me.

I know why they're suspicious of you, because poeple think that most poeple who wear all black and listen to death rock, are really depressed, suicidal, dangerous in some weird way. Some poeple who do that are, but in your case, your getting good grades and doing extra credit, and it seems your doin good. If this is who you are then just keep doin whatcha doin! wink

Thank you True Warrior. I think that atleast one of my teachers thinks I am quite depressed, because I always have my head in my hands. I am just bored, not depressed (ecxept for when my dog died).

Yeah it's like an escalation, trying to push you around to see if you'll trespass more borders each time, hoping that eventually we can get expelled tongue

But I knew better than to play their game and I just started losing interest in having good grades... I went from "Very Good" to "Average - not at the top of her potential" remarks yet I was still showing respect to the teachers. I had realized that what I was learning in senior high wasn't of real use... I actually wanted to learn more, and asking questions was always like defying the teacher's monopoly of knowledge, if you know what I mean. I hate all teachers ever since, there were a few exceptions to the rule (my English teacher in senior year was AWESOME! me and my brother stayed long after class just to talk about Norse mythology, Tolkien novels, etc smile)

Things have gotten cooler at university, that is a totally different place from schools for teenagers. In language studies the professors were treating us like adults and didn't care if we showed up in class or not, if we did homework or not (well they cared but didn't make a big deal out of it). My history and literature professor was this old snobby "Count Dooku" type of guy, people hated him because he put on this hypocritical look all the time, but I liked him (and kinda miss him, lol). Most of the professors there were geniuses and I just didn't care if they were good teachers or not, if they gave me good grades or not. That university is a place were we can be anonymous and ourselves at the same time, it's good for self-respect.

Re: Anger management thread

See, that's my problem. I try and be the good, quiet kid, with some very odd perks. I like StarsWars, I wrote qoutes on the history board, and just happen to like heavy metal (ACDC, Godsmack, Metallica, etc.). I loved history and got along with just about everyone. But, sometimes, the way people stereotype others just...just infurates me. I go out of my way to be friends with what the popular kids labled as 'odd' and most of the time the so-called 'odd' ones were really cool people. perhaps it's just early teenage-angst but, I get really mad, for lack of better word, when a see a person getting picked on because who they are. I get tortured all the time for being one of the few independent girls in my school and other things but, it's nothing to what some people have to deal with. there's this one guy at school that I'm very good friends with and he happens to be gay. I don't care. He's a good person and treats me with respect. I just get so mad when they make fun of him .

I'm done none. Ph3ar, this thread was a very good idea. Props to you.

Re: Anger management thread

Yeah, that is really sad and annoying when people tease others. I truly wonder why people do what they do. Trying to be "cool" by putting others down? That's reely immature, which is kind of funny in the way that the kids that put other kids down are usually trying to be "grown-up"and "cool". I guess that maturity doesn't factor in in their definition of "grown-up", eh?

Re: Anger management thread

RC-3222, Atin: yeah, well... we'd have to throw a lot of people into the "immature" basket for acting like that. It's easy to feel superior when you're pushing others down roll Self-esteem, greed, pride, power... there are many reasons for someone with no self-respect to start bullying another, it's easy to be mean. Whatever they see wrong in someone who's not like them is in fact the expression of their own self-loathing. They're sad, that's all.

What upsets me more is when adults do it to kids (and to eachother), and when kids repeat the scheme on other kids because they think it's "the way to go" in life. It's a freakin' vicious circle sad

I'd teach own future kids about respect, trust, comradeship and sacrifice as soon as they can speak so that nobody could try to corrupt them with those sick behaviors.

Yeah people who pick on others are total herbs. See at my school, Picking on people is the quickest way to be UNcool. Weird. At my school all you need to become cool is a sense of humor, nonchalant attitude, minor athletic ability, and show disobedience for the teachers.
