At whitebobafett.com, we first learned about Geoff Dymond’s Boba Fett Prototype cosplay armor build in the form of an Instagram message from the highly discerning Boba Fett Fan Club, so even before seeing a single photo we knew we were about to witness something special. At their suggestion, we quickly clicked over to Geoff Dymond’s Instagram feed and sure enough, we were not disappointed. The quality of his armor build was probably most starkly evident in the photos of Geoff standing side by side with the white Boba Fett armor display at the Hot Wheels booth at Star Wars Celebration 2016, where any meaningful difference in quality between the two completely escaped us. Read the comments on his Instagram photos and it’s clear that we’re not alone.

It turns out that not only is Geoff a master craftsman, but also a nice guy who graciously agreed to an interview with us. Read on as he shares his insights of the build as well as some tips for his fellow cosplayers.

What is your earliest Star Wars memory?

I would say that my earliest Star Wars memory would be getting toys for Christmas. Imperial Troop Transporter, two Stormtroopers, Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader,R2-D2, and C-3PO, all of which I still have.

Your Instagram profile states that you are a prop maker. Is that your profession, and have you previously built anything else from the Star Wars universe?

My day job is a designer and metal worker. I’ve used my skills to make Boba Fett parts that I sell all around the world. The main bulk of the work is screen-accurate jetpack mounting hardware and reproduction divers belt buckles. I have taken on commissions for metal work parts for friends on Star Wars projects.

In the Star Wars world, both cosplay and in general, the white-armored Boba Fett prototype is relatively rare. What inspired your decision to build his armor?

The all white Boba Fett really caught my eye as soon as I saw it years ago. The clean lines and freshness are in such stark contrast to the final film image of Boba Fett, but still instantly recognisable. I gives you a very individual look, and an extra challenge in making it.

Your armor looks nothing short of incredible. What was your favorite part of the build? And the most challenging?

I’d say my favourite part of the build was the “Space Uzi” blaster. I didn’t get to use it at Celebration because it wouldn’t pass inspection as it’s made around a deactivated Uzi. It was one of those rare parts of the build as it all came together without any trouble at all. All parts are original and I found them quite easily, even the rare “pinstripe” Graflex.

The two biggest headaches were the jetpack and the left gauntlet flame unit. The jetpack was giving me major problems with painting. I had to redo it twice due to poor coverage and bad paint reactions. The flame unit was a problem because of the lack of reference and no one makes them so it had to be scratch-built.

Although the gauntlet was used in the Pre-Production 1 and 3 costumes, references are not that great and some of the references seem to contradict the others. I have ended up making a very close representation but the weight is a little to much. I think I must have gone through three or four mockups before I was satisfied that I had gotten it as close as I could.

You finished the armor just in time for Star Wars Celebration Europe 2016. What are your plans with it moving forward? Will you be joining any troops?

I was blown away by the reception I had at Celebration. I’m now seriously thinking about joining one or more of the costuming clubs and doing some troops. I have friends in all the groups, but up until know I have been put off by some of the internal politics of some clubs.

The biggest thing right now for me will be having someone with less knowledge of the Prototype Fett having to look over my kit and say it’s clearable.

Is there a Star Wars beach towel cape in your future?

The search for the beach towel goes on. It’s a hard thing to come by at a reasonable price. I have even talked to people about reproducing it but I fear a few hundred might have to be done.

While I like the towel, I don’t see it as a good idea to troop with it as it is a little goofy and it would never have made it into the film. More than likely the white and grey cape would have been used. It looks more fitting, especially while trooping with others.

What is the best piece of advice you would offer to a first time armor-builder or cosplayer?

The best advice I can give is do some research. Then do some more research. Take your time to select the makers you buy stuff from, join the forums like The Dented Helmet and read the threads and ask questions.

Wherever possible, don’t buy from online auctions. That’s not to say everything on eBay is rubbish and the stuff you get from forum sales is perfect. Far from it in fact. I know of some rubbish from people who sell on forums and some really top quality gear on eBay. Don’t be worried about using original found parts either. A lot of original parts can still be had for less than cast reproduction. Above all, have fun. Don’t let people put you down. It doesn’t matter if you spend thousands or make everything yourself, but it’s about you having fun.

The 2016 San Diego Comic Con -- starting today, July 20 (preview night) and going through Sunday, July 24 -- has at least a few Boba Fett exclusives this year. While it won't be as wild as last year, here's your go-to checklist to help you out, Fett fans!

EXCLUSIVES

We've found that at least four exclusive items are for sale at Comic Con:

Hallmark has a "Beginnings" holiday ornament featuring the Prototype Armor Boba Fett. StarWars.com describes it as a "two-pack [that] is inspired by the work of concept designer Ralph McQuarrie. One ornament details Boba Fett’s helmet as originally sketched, while the other depicts an all-white full-costume concept." This one will also be available at NYCC 2016. Price TBD.

3D Innovation has a "Mini Boba Fett & Mini Stormtrooper Double/Combo Pack" (numbered and limited to 300 per design) are 3D night lights that come with stickers. Price: $25.

Think Geek has an exclusive plush set of 4 bounty hunters ($30) and a Slave I with Han in carbonite ($12).

ON DISPLAY

Sideshow Collectibles has their new (and still not available to order) Premium Format Jango Fett Figure on display at their booth. They also have their Life-Size Boba Fett Figure and their Premium Format "Empire" Boba Fett Figure to see. They've shared some photos on their blog, too.

eFX Inc. has a Prototype Armor Boba Fett helmet on display. See our post on Facebook to see it up close.

Hot Toys has a "Cosbaby" Boba Fett bobble-head on display -- and they've released some promo photos of it individually plus in the series on Facebook.

Topps, over at Booth 2913-Y in the Lucasfilm pavillion, is doing some Star Wars Galactic Connexions giveaways. The game includes Boba Fett and Jango Fett pieces.

Egg Action Attack has a Boba Fett and Jango Fett on display. Boba is expected to be released in December. The prices are TBD but may be around $90 each. Thanks to our friend t.fett40 on Instagram, we have some cool pictures of this that we put into a short video on Facebook and Twitter.

PANELS

On Friday, July 22nd, thanks to Star Wars Action News, we heard about several Fett mentions in a slideshow of new collectibles from Gentle Giant, Sideshow Collectibles, and Hasbro.

  • Gentle Giant: IG-88 and Boba Fett (coming in 2017)
  • Sideshow Collectibles: Jango Fett (currently on display at their booth)
  • Gentle Giant Jango Fett Mini-Bust (coming in 2017)
  • Hasbro: Black Series Diecast Titanium Boba Fett and Boushh Helmets 2-Pack ($15, coming Fall 2016)

We shared photos of each slide on Facebook and Twitter. Star Wars Action News also has a good shot of the helmet 2-pack on Facebook.

FANS

Our friend "BlueJaigEyes" (aka The Wookiee Gunner) is doing a lot on Periscope! We joined one of her streams on "Preview Night" and she offered to show us some Boba Fett merch that she found, like the Hallmark booth. See some screenshots on Facebook or Twitter. She may be doing more broadcasts throughout the convention.

Cosplayer "Boba Phat" is making an appearance.

Celebration Europe 2016: Day 3

Published July 17, 2016
Written by • Filed under Community

The final day in London left us with less than a handful of notable Boba Fett moments -- which is to be expected. Here is our recap of what we saw and heard from fans who were there:

  • Empire Magazine did a Q&A with Daniel Logan, which they live-streamed on Facebook. You can also find some fun pictures on Twitter.
  • Alan Harris, who also portrayed Bossk in addition to modeling with the prototype Boba Fett costume, had a nice picture taken of him with a Bossk cosplayer, @Ant_79 on Twitter
  • At SWCE, @jnewt14 on Twitter snapped a picture of Pikachu Fett, a mash-up costume blending the two characters.
  • @andycook01 on Twitter had a great picture with a "Empire" Boba Fett cosplayer.
  • @SamHModel on Twitter found a "Jedi" Boba Fett and took a nice picture with him in her Rey outfit.

The highlight of today was the official confirmation of the actor for the Han Solo "story" film, which was unofficially confirmed way back in May. No other Boba Fett news.

Celebration Europe 2016: Day 2

The second of three days in London brought a couple Boba Fett mentions. Here is our recap of what we saw and heard from fans who were there:

  • During the "Star Wars Rebels" panel, head honcho Dave Filoni was asked if Daniel Logan would return; Dave brushed this off. More on our Fett Fact Check log for Rebels.
  • Also during the Star Wars Rebels panel, a trailer for Season 3 was shown. It includes "Mandalorians who fight for the Empire" who look a lot like Ralph McQuarrie's Prototype Boba Fett design. We shared a video excerpt on Facebook, along with a link to the official trailer.
  • The "Keeping Up With The Fetts" panel with Jeremy Bulloch and Daniel Logan was NOT live streamed as scheduled. We're bummed. However, the "Star Wars Show" did a 3 minute interview with Bulloch and Logan, which you can watch on YouTube.
  • During the "MEET ILMxLAB: The Future of Immersive Entertainment" panel, Boba Fett was shown in the virtual reality demo on Tatooine. We shared two screenshots on Facebook.
  • One cosplayer who went as a Prototype Boba Fett captured a fan in a photo by @pichichix on Instagram.
  • Daniel "Young Boba Fett" Logan shared a picture of him with Mark "Luke Skywalker" Hamill on Instagram.
  • One fan found a Predator Boba Fett cosplayer in attendance at SWCE and shared a photo on Instagram.

All in all, the big news today was about Thrawn being part of the new canon after being born in the Expanded Universe (now called "Legends"). No other Boba Fett news.

Celebration Europe 2016: Day 1

[UPDATED 7/19 10pm: "Keeping Up With The Fetts Panel" embed added.]

The first of three days in London brought just a few Boba Fett mentions. Here is our recap of what we saw and heard from fans who were there:

  • The exclusive Prototype Armor Boba Fett toy from Hot Wheels (Mattel) was included in the official Star Wars Show and easy for fans to pick up for ten Euros at their booth. See our guide to SWCE for Fett fans on where Mattel's booth is, plus find a photo gallery taken by our friends at Jedi News for more angles of the toy.)
  • The Jeremy Bulloch / Daniel Logan panel was a hit. "Two Boba Fetts in one room," tweeted @annmighty with a photo. (Note: according to StarWars.com, this panel is being "live" streamed tomorrow, Saturday 7/16, at 8am PDT / 5am PDT. We'd like to point out that it's not really live anymore if it's the next day... but we look forward to seeing what we can see!)
UPDATED 7/19 10pm: Days later, they've officially added the hour-long "Keeping Up With The Fetts Panel" stream to YouTube:

  • Some Boba Fett cosplayers were spotted by Gala.fr on Twitter having a good laugh. The tweet in French asks if these guys know what's up with Episode 8.
  • F3-T7, the Boba Fett meets R2-D2 droid, made an appearance. @mockingnerd on Twitter snapped a photo.
  • The night before opening, Daniel "Young Boba Fett" Logan brought pizza to some fans waiting in line overnight. "Daniel Logan, young Boba Fett in AOTC, just gave me pizza. I'm in Nirvana," tweeted @JeffWSweeney.
  • Our friends at Jedi News found a Boba Fett dress for sale in the official Celebration store and shared photos of it on Facebook.

Overall, the day focused around "Rogue One." No sighting or mention of Boba Fett within the film, although there's still a few rumors that he could show up.

Did "Life Debt" Continue a Slow (Yet Canon) Reveal of Boba Fett's Fate?

Updated July 12, 2016 1:17 am • Published July 12, 2016
Written by • Filed under Fettpedia

"Star Wars Life Debt: Aftermath" was released today. If you’re like me, you’ve probably been waiting in anticipation to read up more on Boba Fett’s ultimate fate, after his scavenged armor was supposedly referenced in the last book, "Aftermath."

(If you need a refresher, catch up on the first book's tangled mystery of Fett’s survival and the current state of what's canon versus what's not in our Fett Fact Check, "Is Boba Fett Dead or Alive?")

Here’s an excerpt from "Life Debt" with yet another interlude on Tatooine. (Bold emphasis added.)

“He thought maybe to tame the glorious monstrosity at the bottom of the Great Pit of Carkoon (and, failing that, to throw himself into its maw), but the mighty Sarlacc was injured. Burning wreckage from the sail barge had rained upon it. Already its body—considerably more massive than the mouth exposed from the sliding sands—had been partially unburied, its stoma-tubes slit open, its digesting innards pillaged by industrious Jawas. They pulled out weapons and armor, droids and tools. And skeletons, of course. The creature of Carkoon had a pure purpose, to wait and to eat, and now it was left to thrash and wail in the grip of pillagers. Malakili wept at another life without purpose.”

It's still ambiguous, but... it almost seems more like it was excavated by the Jawas, because of the large removal of sand to expose the body, even partially. It also seems like the beast was surgically slit open, where one would expect it ripped open from explosives had it been Fett from the inside out, which would've also likely cleared some of the sand as well. That is, unless Fett was surgical about it himself, using blades or lasers, etc.. Then again, there were skeletons found... perhaps Jabba wasn’t so truthful about the thousand years of digestion.

Here is another excerpt. (Bold emphasis added.)

“There, a man in Mandalorian armor, the suit of it pocked and pitted and streaked with scars. Armor that looks eerily familiar, and Malakili’s innards clench at the sight of it. A carbine hangs at the man’s side. Next to him stands a tall woman. Head-tails which means she’s Twi’lek—though one of those head-tails is mangled, its end puckered with scar tissue. At her hips hang twin pistols.

“I’m Issa-Or,” she says, a sneer to her lips.

The man removes his helmet. His cheeks are lined with salt-and-pepper stubble. He winces against the double suns.

“I’m Cobb Vanth. Lawman and de facto mayor of what used to be Mos Pelgo.””

Well, it would seem that Malakili may remember the visage of that particular set of Mandalorian armor. So, what does this mean? Just as it was with the last book, the case is still pretty ambiguous. Was Boba Fett able to cut himself free, and then for some reason abandon his armor? Is this all some kind of red herring? Or is Fett dead? Well, there is no clear answer, and we may have to wait another year for another spoonful.

However, you may still consider that the armor Cobb Vanth is wearing is a complete set, assumedly flight suit and all... so, make of that what you will, and happy hunting!

Tamashii has shown a preview of their Ronin Jango Fett, but it hasn't yet been available. Maybe they'll show it at the convention.

  • Behind the Scenes of DK’s Books: The Making of Star Wars: The Force Awakens The Visual Dictionary and Incredible Cross-Sections (Behind-The-Scenes Stage - Door S10)

  • Vintage Star Wars Coins (Star Wars Fan & Collectors’ Stage - Door S11)
Our friends at TheSWCA.com are putting on a presentation about the collectible coins, several of which include Boba Fett, who may or may not come up as a topic of discussion.

  • Star Wars Rebels Season 3 - Celebration Stage (The Auditorium, East Lower Level)
Two episodes from Star Wars Rebels Season 3 will be shown. Fett hasn't been confirmed to be in the series, let alone this season, but it's a possibility given the timeline of events and previous guest characters. Maybe they will show something here? See our Fett Fact Check on mentions so far about Fett in the series.

4:30 PM - 5:30 PM

  • Hot Wheels and Star Wars: Car Design in a Galaxy Far, Far Away - Behind-The-Scenes Stage

Don't forget that Alan Harris (Prototype Boba Fett armor model) is here today doing photos and autographs!

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

  • Lucasfilm: The Art of Storytelling (Galaxy Stage - Door N17)
This "Story Group" panel event is where Boba Fett being neither dead nor alive came up last year, so it's possible to be mentioned again... or differently.

Our 20 Year Anniversary!

Today this website turns 20 years old!

Established on this day in 1996, the Boba Fett Fan Club is one of the oldest Star Wars fan efforts still on the web. To join us in celebrating this milestone, we have a design available in various styles on shirts, prints, and even phone cases, which you can get at TeePublic:

The design was done by the incredible illustrator Jason Goad. We've been a huge fan of his work, which often involves Boba Fett, and he generously came up with this all himself.

The color version references a bit of his vintage Kenner action figure look along with his Return of the Jedi colors. The black-and-white version references his pre-production / concept white prototype armor colors.

Because we all do this as a volunteer effort, we want to go further. All proceeds will be donated to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity, which is Jeremy Bulloch's favorite charity. The actor has been a major inspiration and support in doing this site since day one — along with all of you fans of this fan club.

If you decide to grab a shirt, print, or other item, please let us know on social media with hashtag #BobaFettFanClub or drop us an e-mail.

Cheers!

Slave I on the Bespin "Administrator's Palace" Map in "Star Wars Battlefront"

First seen for a split-second out a window within the Bespin DLC release trailer, here is an exclusive look at Star Wars Battlefront's latest update where you can find Boba Fett's Slave I and see all sides of the ship, parked on the East Platform of Cloud City.

This footage is from the Blast game mode, specifically the "Administrator's Palace" map. Slave I is on the right side of the map from the Imperial starting point. Stick to the outside platforms and you'll find it in no time.

Screencast by Gustavo Perez for BFFC.

The game also includes some patches for the often-nerfed Boba Fett. In this case, some of his powers improved. Check out these release notes:

  • Boba Fett: Modified the behavior of the flamethrower to be more responsive.
  • Boba Fett: Increased Boba Fett’s flamethrower active time from 2.5 to 4.5 seconds.
  • Boba Fett: Reduced time for jetpack regeneration from 2 to 1.6 seconds.
  • Boba Fett: Lock-on distance for wrist launcher added for up to 25m.
  • Boba Fett: Increased wrist launcher rocket blast radius from 3 to 4m.

Our initial survey of fans on social media found that the responsive flamethrower update is nice, whereas others found the flamethrower active time to be too long.

For more release notes, see starwars.ea.com.

UPDATE

Playing as Boba Fett is available in the following game modes:

  • Sabotage (Administrator's Palace, Carbon-Freezing Chamber, Cloud City and Bioniip Laboratories maps)
  • Walker Assault (Bioniip Laboratories and Cloud City)
  • Supremacy (Bioniip Laboratories and Cloud City)

Piloting Slave I is available in the only aerial map among the clouds:

  • Fighter Squadron
