Will Boba Fett Train Jaina Solo In Sequel Trilogy?

06.11.2013 • Comments 3 comments

There’s been speculation whether or not the Star Wars spin-off films will be related to the series proper. If the latest plot rumors have a kernel of truth, as reported by SchmoesKnow.com, this very well may be.

Sal Solo end 340x216 Will Boba Fett Train Jaina Solo In Sequel Trilogy?According to the “leaked” information, the plot centering on Episode VII will involve the characters of Jaina and Jacen Solo – the twin children of Han Solo and Leia Organa. The New Jedi Order has been established, but tensions rise when Jacen turns to the Dark Side.

Fans of the Expanded Universe are familiar with this story, especially from the “Legacy of the Force” novels. Jaina was trained by Luke Skywalker and her brother, Jacen, becomes one of the most powerful Jedi in the universe, rivaling Luke, himself.

In the novels, Jacen is seduced to the Dark Side as a way to better the world. He becomes convinced he can learn this side of the Force without falling into the same trappings his grandfather, Anakin, had. In the novels, it becomes left to Jaina to stop her brother – and to do so, she seeks out Boba Fett to train her.

Jaina’s time spent on Mandalore, training with Fett, becoming comrades with Mirta Gev, Boba Fett’s granddaughter, and fighting beside Mandalorians, was a pivotal piece of her readying to take down her brother. Therefore, if the plot of Episode VII is truly about the Solo twins – we’ll likely see a heavy amount of Mandalorians – even if this isn’t fleshed out until Episode VIII or IX.

I wouldn’t be shocked if Disney wants to include more Mandalorians in the sequel trilogy. The popularity of Death Watch and Mandalore-centered episodes in The Clone Wars has proven fans embrace Mandalorian factions as much as Jedi and Sith.

This also would open Boba Fett’s rumored spin-off, especially if Episode VIII is when they land Jaina on Mandalore.

They could set up the fall of Jacen in Episode VII, and then release the Boba Fett spin-off, which centers on Boba Fett’s survival from the Sarlacc, reunion with Mirta Gev and becoming Mandalore. Then we have all the information we need to lead into Episode VIII – which shows Jaina arriving on Mandalore and her experiences with the people.

Could Boba Fett's Prototype Armor Appear In "Rebels?"

prototype Could Boba Fetts Prototype Armor Appear In Rebels? When Disney announced the development of “Star Wars Rebels,”they released a short video of Pablo Hidalgo talking with Dave Filoni about the basic concepts behind their approach to this new animated series.

Filoni said they are using concept art by Ralph McQuarrie, an artist famous for assisting the look and feel of the original Star Wars, as a foundation for the new series. Since his concept art is similar, but not exact to what we see in the original trilogy – Filoni is running with the idea those designs could be an early evolutions of armor, ships, etc.

mcquarrieoncept Could Boba Fetts Prototype Armor Appear In Rebels? Many of us are familiar with McQuarrie’s early designs for Boba Fett. We’ve seen the white prototype armor, when the character was mused as being a “super trooper.” This made me think whether it would be interesting if Filoni and his team used these early designs for Boba Fett in ‘Rebels.’

We’ve seen a variety of colors and styles worn by Mandalorians in The Clone Wars and comics. Since Boba Fett is separated from his culture during this time period, there’s no telling what his first armor may look like – leaving room to introduce the prototype armor as the bounty’s hunter first reintroduction to Mandalorian tradition.

Due to The Clone Wars being cancelled, we missed out on the story arc of how Boba Fett gets his armor. Assuming they don’t recycle that storyline, perhaps his first armor is commissioned by Boba Fett as a way to pay homage to his father – and this is the prototype version – the young Fett not knowing too much about the meaning of colors and insignia, it’s reasonable the design could be “off,” since it would be from memory.

As he gains experience and knowledge of his culture, maybe even stumbling upon a lost and forgotten armory of his father’s, he finds the armor we eventually see in the Original Trilogy.

Four Plot Ideas for Boba Fett in "Rebels"

05.30.2013 • Comments 2 comments

agents Four Plot Ideas for Boba Fett in RebelsLast week the production team for “Star Wars Rebels” hashed out story ideas for season one. Fans have begun tweeting spoiler-oriented questions to producer Greg Weisman. Obviously, the team over at Disney/Lucasfilm isn’t going to share anything at this point – but we can speculate – or hypothesize.

Here is a list of four ways Boba Fett could fit into the world of “Rebels,” some of which is based on various levels of canon we’ve seen dealing with the Dark Times between Episodes III-IV.

  • When the Rebellion starts its leaders realize an important element of their cause is information. This brings rise to another group to counteract Rebel spies, none other than Imperial agents. While agents are initially created to gather data on Rebels, their roles evolve into manipulating politics, businesses and powerful families. These missions often times brings them working side-by-side or trading information with bounty hunters like Boba Fett.
  • After the pacifistic government of Mandalore fell, the planet was held together by the splinter group Nite Owls, led by Bo-Katan. The new regime blames the takeover that occurred on turning away from traditional Mandalorian ways. However, they become an enemy of the Empire due to not agreeing to bow down before the Emperor or fight for them. With the Jedi gone, Boba Fett switches from revenging his father’s death to wanting to learn of his life and returns to Jango’s homeworld.
  • Years after the Clone Wars ended, the Empire faces the problem of dwindling troopers. The Clone Troopers who survived the war are now aging progressively faster and there’s no longer enough genetic materials from Jango Fett to create more. So, the Emperor recruits bounty hunters to hunt down remaining Jedi.
  • Boba Fett hadn’t yet adopted his “work alone” mentality yet in the canon established in The Clone Wars. The increased demand for bounty hunters during the Dark Times stimulates the formation of a Bounty Hunters Guild, which an older Boba Fett quickly climbs the ranks within. Although, it’s from his experience in the guild that he later decides to work alone.

FettCloneWarsModel #BringBackBoba Campaign Rallying FansLet the rumors begin! Disney just announced it will debut a new animated series in fall 2014, taking place in the virtually untouched time between Episode III-IV. According to Disney officials, “Star Wars Rebels” takes place about 20 years before A New Hope. Catch the promo video below.

This is great news for fans of Boba Fett – as it provides a great opportunity to not only tie up loose ends from “The Clone Wars,” but flesh out the rise of Boba Fett to the infamous role he plays in the Original Trilogy era.

We’ve heard there was a Boba Fett story arc planned for season six; we even saw an image of him in his Mandalorian armor. However, we never got to see his full transition from an angry orphan to a renowned bounty hunter. How did he wind up with his classic armor? How did he retrieve Slave I from Hondo?

It wouldn’t be too hard to put Boba Fett in this new animated series, especially since they’ve already got the animated model complete for the character. There’s also opportunity to show the foundation of Boba Fett’s and Darth Vader’s working relationship.

Since this series focuses on the Rebellion, this creates a place for bounty hunters as well. It was Prince Xizor who suggested the Emperor use bounty hunters as tools for the Galactic Empire in the Bounty Hunter War trilogy. He points out in the first novel, how there’s an advantage to using these individuals for certain missions.

We see how useful bounty hunters are to the Empire in “The Force Unleashed II,” when Darth Vader recruits Boba Fett to hunt down Juno to lure in Starkiller.

During this era, the Empire may even hire bounty hunters like Boba Fett to hunt down the remaining Jedi who escaped Order 66. There’s all kinds of possibilities – not to mention, many fans would like to see the fallout of Mandalore – it in itself a channel to bring in Boba Fett again.

Let’s also not forget in the time of “The Clone Wars,” Cad Bane is the No. 1 bounty hunter. How does Boba Fett take hold this role?

We need to demonstrate to Disney the fan base of Boba Fett. His role in “Rebels” would also provide a good build up to get younger fans excited about a Boba Fett spin-off film. To show our support, we’ll be starting a campaign to #BringBackBoba. It starts with a Facebook page, and hopefully we’ll be able to grow from there.

Boba Fett And Bossk Partner in "Star Wars" #5

05.22.2013 • Comments no comments

photo 3 Boba Fett And Bossk Partner in Star Wars #5Note: This post contains SPOILERS to "Star Wars" #5

The last time we saw Boba Fett he had tracked the Millennium Falcon to a far reach of space, where Han Solo and Chewbacca were hiding within space debris for a rendezvous. The smuggler got away, but Boba Fett has now tracked Solo back to the planet Coruscant – and he’s not alone – the Mandalorian has allied himself with the bounty hunter, Bossk.

I’ve been wondering when writer Brian Wood would check back in with the bounty hunter. In “Star Wars” #5, we finally catch up with this subplot – but it leaves us with more questions than answers. Han Solo has come to Coruscant to obtain forged identification papers, but he and Chewbacca must run for it when they realize they’re being followed.

Boba Fett is torn between the two bounties which have been placed on the smuggler – the original bounty placed by Jabba the Hutt, and the latter by Darth Vader who specifically wants to get his hands on the Falcon. It’s while juggling his options that he loses track of Han Solo.

fettsw6 Boba Fett And Bossk Partner in Star Wars #5The Corellian managed to escape the grasp of Boba Fett and Bossk by accepting a proposition of an Imperial Sanitation Officer named Perla. She is aware of the high bounty placed on Solo’s head, a smuggler herself, she capitalizes on Solo’s predicament by offering him a getaway for 10 percent of the bounty reward.

There are a few things to note about this issue: the first is Wood seems to have adopted the retconned relationship between Boba and Bossk – mainly that they have a working relationship that seems (thus far) friendly.

Is this acknowledgment of the history of partnership we saw in The Clone Wars or the shaky partnership forged in the Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy of books?

I continue to hope Wood has plans to devote an entire issue to the Boba Fett/Han Solo plotline, rather than giving a few panels to this story every few issues. I also hope he further fleshes out the partnership between Boba Fett and Bossk.

It should also be noted the illustration of Bossk is more similar to his tall and lanky appearance in The Clone Wars than depictions of him in comics and novels prior to any recon stories.

There’s no hints as to whether or not Boba Fett will appear in “Star Wars” #6, but as the story arc concludes – I can only imagine Wood plans to tie up this subplot – meaning chances are strong we won’t have to wait so long for another appearance by the Mandalorian.

"Vader's Little Princess" And Uncle Boba?

vadersprincess 330x340 Vaders Little Princess And Uncle Boba?Last month, children’s book illustrator Jeffrey Brown followed up his bestseller Darth Vader and Son with another instant hit, Vader’s Little Princess. This cute story takes a look at what fatherhood would be like for the Sith Lord if he was forced to raise a daughter who was a rebel – a fun play on words, since Leia, was in fact, a rebel.

Each page of this book shows young Leia as she grows older and the troubles Vader would have managing his daughter – from teaching her to fly a TIE fighter, to dressing appropriately and spending too much time talking with friends.

One of the funniest images is when she brings a boy home – instead of cleaning his gun at the kitchen table, as we’ve seen countless times in movies or television, Vader has Boba Fett standing menacingly in the background – who wouldn’t ensure their date was home on time if the most infamous bounty hunter in the galaxy was keeping tabs on your night out!

Sneakerhead Treatment for Boba Fett

Freehand Profit, an artist/illustrator/designer based in Los Angeles, used two Nike "Boba Fett" shoes to make a very creative Boba Fett helmet.

Excerpt from the announcement:

I had given up finding pairs of the ‘Boba Fett’ Nike SB Dunk HIs from 2008- it seemed like no one was selling them. I assumed no one in their right mind would give up such a great piece of SB Gold… then a pair appeared… and at a price I didn’t even flinch at. I realized with all the hype and the market flooded with newbies after ‘nothing but HEAT’, some folks gave up selling shoes that weren’t South Beach Lebrons, Tiffany SBs or Jordan Retros. I was lucky and ecstatic to find 4 pairs from great folks all across the country – some by trade some by cold cash money. I set 2 aside for the mask, and a wishful thinking 2 for me. Anytime I start a big project like the Stormtrooper or Boba Fett helmets I know I’ll need more material than a “standard” sneaker gas mask. I aim to do each piece with as few pairs as possible to avoid waste, for the Boba Fett helmet it could’ve been done with just 2 pairs. I saw more potential in sacrificing a 3rd pair for the sake of certain design elements in the finished piece. Very happy with the results, and just as happy with a single pair in my rotation.

The artwork is for sale.
