Boba Fett had tracked Han Solo to Nar Shaddaa. There he had them cornered. He thought he would capture them again and bring them to the Hutts but he was surprised by Chewbacca, who wad snuck up behind him. Chewie, in the struggle, ripped off Boba Fett's helmet (his face is in the shadows) and ignites his rocket pack, sending him into the ceiling.
In the story The Last One Standing we are treated to an account of the first time Boba saw Han Solo. He was taken back by the young man's courage. The next time we see Fett and Solo, Fett has an acute hatred of him, but we don't learn why.
Boba Fett helped out Luke, Han, and Chewie in the Star Wars Holiday Special. So, given the above information, whyever Fett hates Solo must have happened after this point.
Boba Fett was once Jaster Mereel, a Journeyman Protector on the planet Concord Dawn. He was convicted of killing another Jounrneyman, even though the other protector was corrupt, and exiled from the planet. After that he joined the Imperials and became a stormtrooper (according to Tales of the Bounty Hunters). Very little is known of what transpired between then and when he went into business for himself as Boba Fett.
[ EDITOR'S NOTE: According to Steve Sansweet, spokesman at Lucasfilm for Episode 2, everything we thought we knew about Boba Fett's past is not true. ]
Boba Fett holds several records for bountys. First, he is the only person to be paid twice for the same bounty. he was paid for capturing Han Solo by Darth Vader, then he was paid for Han Solo by Jabba the Hutt.
Second, he holds the record for the largest bounty ever: 5 million credits. That was paid for collecting the Devaronian Butcher Kardue'sai Malloc.
Boba Fett wears a weapon-covered armored spacesuit similar to those favored by a group of warriors from the Mandalore system who were defeated by the Jedi Knights during the Clone Wars. The armor contains, by all accounts, a macrobinocular viewplate with 360 degbree field of view, infrared scope, sensor array, and microcomputer. It serves as protection and is loaded with built-in weapons and hidden devices. Those most obvious includd wrist lasers, rocket darts, miniature flame throwers, and concussion grenade launchers. Several Wookiee scalps hang from his shoulder as evidence of his deadly abilities.
No. In Andy Mangles' Essential Guide to Characters, Boba Fett's real name is listed as Jaster Mereel.
