Topic: What it means to spam...

Spam is the posting of advertisements, abusive, or unneeded messages on Internet forums. It is generally posted by automated spambots.

Spambots are automated programs designed to register on forums, disseminate spam, and leave. They usually supply a fake name, freebase email address, and sometimes mask their true IP address. Spammers can set the message that the spambot will post. Most spambots target one specific forum software or hosting company. Spambots are easy to identify by the nature of the message they leave, or the links in the signature. A typical post contains no topical content, but is accompanied by either spam links in the post itself, or in the user's signature. Some spambots will never post, and rely on the links in their signature to increase their search engine visibility. Looking up the spambot's user name with a search engine will often reveal thousands of registrations in unrelated forums.

Most spambot forum spam consists of links, with the dual goals of increasing search engine visibility in highly competitive areas such as weightloss, pharmaceuticals, gambling, pornography, real estate or loans, and generating more traffic for these commercial websites. Some of these links contain code to track the spambot's identity if a sale goes through, when the spammer behind the spambot works on commission.

Spam posts may contain anything from a single link, to dozens of links. Text content is minimal, usually innocuous and unrelated to the forum's topic.

Alternately, the spam links are posted in the user's signature, in which case the spambot will never post. The link sits quietly in the signature field, where it is most likely to be harvested by search engine spiders than discovered by forum administrators and moderators.

Spam prevention and deletions measurably increase the workload of forum administrators and moderators. The amount of time and resources spent keeping a forum spam free contributes significantly to labour cost, and the skill required in the running of a public forum. Marginally profitable or smaller forums may be permanently closed by administrators. Forums that do not require registration are becoming rare.

Alright, the board has a chat room, and a PM system.
If you really want to ask a member a question(concerning habit/attitude/anything not regarding the topic) I'd enjoy it if most of them were handled through Email, PM, IM, maybe even a topic singled out for it. In regard to that it's kinda like asking the stupid question in the wrong class.

You've been holding out on us again haven't you? Since you haven't given us enough money, I'll guess I'll have to take it out of you piece by piece! - Unknown Mandalorian.

Re: What it means to spam...

Nice to see you're here Green.

It's nice to see you're an active member, honestly that's just fine. But you've been posting alot in the wrong topic. Asking about Boba Fett vs. Wolverine in an rpg when it should be in that particular topic.

As advice, make sure you read the topic title. For example, "What it means to spam..."
If we're talking about spam then I hope we don't start going over how to make marshmallows, (I'd still like to know though.)

Now, say you want to talk about something that hasn't been made into a topic yet. Go to the category it would fit under.

General: Anything generally about Boba Fett.
Film and Television: Fett in films (Star Wars) and T.V. (Christmas Special) even fan video fit
Bounty Hunters: Also includes mercenaries, smugglers. Where you can talk about Dengar and Bossk. All them there other Bounty Hunters. Even Han Solo.
Serious Geeking: Deep questions concerning incredibly geeky answers. Such as how you get to the cockpit of slave 1.
Fans: Anything that doesn't go with anything else. Such as what you did over vacation or a new movie coming out not related to star wars.
Creative: Writing and art. Fan Fiction, sketches. Anything to do with Fett and the rest in media format.
Collecting: Figures, ships, legos. Any kind of Boba merchandise.
Dialogue: Talks between Mods/Admin to the members about site updates and questions about using the site.

When you get to the category there will be a button that says post new topic. Follow the directions and click submit. Don't be too impatient it might take a while to get answers.

Your mistake at the moment is still posting in the wrong category. And it's been keeping both Mel and I incredibly busy trying to keep it clean. Stop please, take a moment to realize where the post is going before clicking submit. We aren't your enemies, you just need to learn some of the etiquette.

Re: What it means to spam...

To be fair, he has probably five non-spam posts.

1. We are not "bulling" you.
2. His name is Aaron.
3. If you "tatle-taled" (I hate that phrase), what would he do? We are not being mean to you. We are correcting you, and pointing out facts.

Re: What it means to spam...

All you have to do is stop posting every 2 mins.
1.Use more PM's to make friends.
2.Make your posts more that 5 words long.

Re: What it means to spam...

I'm sure you have some great ideas/knowledge to share, green helmeted fett, and you could easily enhence your rank without using spam.  All that you need to remember is to stay on topic, or, if you can't, either refrain from posting it/make a new topic on that which you want to talk about.  OK?

Due to maintenance problems, the light at the end of the tunnel will not be in operation today.  Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Re: What it means to spam...

Besides if your spamming to get your rank up in the end it isnt worth it, true mandalorians earn their rank not cheat to get them.

green helmeted fett, it's short-hand for private messages. Click a member's username on the left and one of the options is to send them a message. It's a direct way to reach other members without sending them e-mail or posting for everyone to read on these boards.

To everyone who has had to deal with green helmeted fett, I commend you on your patience and maturity, as I have just wanted to throw this guy out the window the second he started (yes) spamming.
Seriously, props to you Maltese and draco.
