Re: Karma?

I'm sorry for giving you that minus Daenna. You didn't deserve it.

You're right. I DO suck. Right now, my life sucks, and I have very little friends at school. I AM nobody

I'm sorry though...

I hope you can accept my apology..., though you don't have to.

And I don't play Wow, btw

Re: Karma?

It's ok, just next time be a little slower on the minus karma button. If any mods are watching can we fix this?

And you have plenty of friends here. I know that's no substitute for friends where you live, but at least it's better than nothing, right? And don't feel too bad, I didn't really have any friends when I was growing up either. You learn to live without people, and it's rather nice actually. And you're not nobody, to me at least you feel something like a little brother.

Re: Karma?

thank you Miba. Sometimes people here think I'm annoying and everything, but it's because I like to talk a lot. I'm a non-stop chatterbox where I live. My mum says it too.

Also, I have maybe three ACTUAL friends at school and around the country. smile

And I have some here too.

Thanks, Aaron. smile

Re: Karma?

Well, since I started this thread I guess I'll chime in here.

I think the Karma thing is a neat idea for a forum and it kind of takes the place of the "real" world pat on the back, direct compliment or, on the other hand, sour face or personal insult. As far as its portioning goes...well, maybe that's the same as the real world too.  You never know what kind of karma is coming your way or why or how or anything. Sometimes stuff just happens and all you can say is "that's life!"

On another level though, this relates to the discussion about the number of posts people have and the relative prestige connected to that number. I guess it is really important to keep things in context. This is very hard to do in the "virtual" world. In this abstract society we inhabit called the Boba Fett fan club people embrace many different sets of values and understand the world in a wide variety of ways. Some people are more territorial or proprietorial about the content they submit. Some people don't contribute to certain threads because they find them uninteresting, some people only comment when they have something negative to say. Some people only talk about themselves, Some people post "lol" a hundred times. What I am saying is that it is really complicated. And, again, just like with the issue of the total number of posts one has, the number of karma points is not necessarily a true indicator of what kind of person they are. Some people come off as being really rude when they get behind a keyboard but in reality are really alright if you know them in the real world. There is also the time factor. If you have been a registered member of BFFC for more than a year and you have no karma and less than 100 posts you are probably not that involved in the community or have other things that consume your time, other priorities etc. On the other hand if you have only been here for say six months and you have 300 posts and 12 karma points you must be making a serious impact on some level, positive or negative depending on the case.

Long-story-short...I do think it is important to only push those green or red buttons when you really mean it but it is also important to remember that everybody has a different way of expressing their feelings and different motivations for doing so.

I'll shut up now...

Re: Karma?

No no what you say makes a lot of sense. At the before mentioned Super Mario board I mod, we had a Karma system once too. It was removed after a while due to lack of interist and abuse of the system. The mods and the two admins would have a TON of positive Karma, but the regular members would generally have average. A few "special" people had Karma in the negative! A rule came about that no one can have negative Karma, but that didn't really help matters since they still either had Karma in the negative, or at exactly 0. And it didn't do anything to stop the suck ups of course. In a whole, only a few people actually used the Karma system as designed. After a few months it was (mostly) forgotten about and still abused, so it was discontinued.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is, well, I don't care who gives me positive Karma or not. Yes, its nice that I've been given +5 Karma. But if someone gave me a negative I'd just shrug it off. Ultimatly, I'm indifferent about it, as I see what happened at the board I also go to is going on here. The mods and the super popular people have a ton of Karma. Everyone else doesn't. I imagine if you implimented a simmilar system across the internet, you'd get the same exact results everywhere.

Just some food for thought.

Right on Cecilia!

That's mostly what I was trying to say. And I think it extends to the "real" world too.

You know, I almost always agree with everything you post. Maybe I should stop posting and just follow your posts. lol smile

And Masterchief...man, I have tried to send you PMs a dozen times but your box is always full.

I think he is thanking you for apologizing to people and trying to be nice. Got any picture of the puppet? Sounds cute.

Cast iron and treadmills? Oh yes. Still sculpting me to what I really want to be, and I love it. :)

Re: Karma?

Re: Karma?

I never use karma unless it's for a good reason. I think I've only given out maybe three or four. Mostly I'm uninterested in it, and also I don't want to just go giving out karma for things like, "Cause you like the same _____ I do", cause that's not something that's really worth it.

When I first saw we were getting a karma system going I thought exactly what Cecilia was saying.

I don't think it's pathetic. Nothing wrong with acting like a child... you are one. Sometimes I feel so much like a big baby myself, I say that my baby girl (not even 1 year old yet) is the one coming over to babysit me.

Cast iron and treadmills? Oh yes. Still sculpting me to what I really want to be, and I love it. :)

Re: Karma?

cool

anyway

I said I was pathetic because 5 year olds are supposed to say that about soft toys.

Anyway, I'm not on topic

so.......

Re: Karma?

I started this thread with a question about the administrative aspects of the BFFC but I have another question...

Do any of you really believe in karma in a cosmic sense?  I mean do you really think that what you do has any kind of cosmic ramifications?

I think he's talking about the Golden Rule and how karma will come back to bite you in the @$$ is you do a bad deed or something. My mom firmly believes in karma, but I am not so sure.
