Re: The Old Republic

it looks pretty damn awesome, let's hope they don't destroy it like they did with SWG.

Re: The Old Republic

I LOVE Revan just as much, if not more than the average KotOR fan. (Trust me on this one... I can prove it ... tongue) But if looking at the chronology of all history in the Star Wars galaxy, its almost impossible for Revan and the Exile to return from unknown space successful in destroying the Sith. Why do I say that?  The Sith survive, and not because Revan once was Sith and returned from the unknown regions. Darth Bane.. Brotherhood of Darkness etc, all had to stem from somewhere. It makes perfect logical sense that they would have descended from the Sith in question during the time period classified as "KotOR" or rather this MMO. To me this fits, because otherwise the Sith and much of their knowledge of the dark side of the force would have disappeared. It is obvious that with Darth Bane's time period, that they have not.

Re: The Old Republic

Why don't they just call it "World of Star Warcraft". Everyone knows that's what they're trying to do.

Furthermore everyone would rather play KOTOR 3 on their own than pay $15 a month to play as some meaningless character being spammed by some 12 year old who likes pop tarts.

Only way I'd ever CONSIDER getting this is if Mandos were included, and could kill Jedi. And probably if it were to be on the 360, cus my computer is CRAP.

I know. The best way to beat the little turds is to spam them back in a far more intelligent way then win the game you are playing in. I'm good at both of those things so I guess I win.

Back to the KOTOR thing. Well if they bring back and ruin any of the characters from KOTOR I or II I will be very displeased. I don't care if they re-use crappy characters like Traya, but if they ruin Canderous and/or Atton....Well. I'll write such an angry letter.... In red ink!
That'll learn them.

Re: The Old Republic

Star Wars (to me at least) is the movies. Knights of the Old Republic has so little to do with the movies because they wanted to have free reign from them, basically bioware completely created their own story and characters and ideas and worlds. That's all fine I guess, except I begrudge it for having a Star Wars tag on the front of it just to sell and make money. Take away force powers and lightsabers from that game and you have basically just a space RPG that I guarantee you wouldn't sell nearly as many copies as it does JUST by having SW plastered in front of it. It's not a George Lucas (even tho he's retarded) creation, it may have been approved by him or whatever, but if he ever got the chance to make a KOTOR movie or something he'd just change it all 100% into something else. Why? Because it's not Star Wars, it's Bioware. It just so happens to BE in a Star Wars setting. Star Wars is a tale of fathers and sons that is based off of so many myths and epics and stories that have been passed down throughout the generations, while Knights of the Old Republic lacks all of that. Some of the characters are absolutely fantastic! Canderous is my absolute favorite (for obvious reasons), and HK-47 left a lasting impression on everyone. Hell, he's even shown up in a few other games, like Star Wars Galaxies, the "other" star wars online game that will surely tank after TOR comes out.

For the basic run down

1) I hate every joe somebody getting to be a Jedi , because there shouldn't ever be a ton. It's like on "Heroes" (if you watch). If EVERYONE had super powers, chaos surely will ensue.

2) The lack of ICONIC characters. Yes yes, you will argue that Carth and Revan are super kewl. Thats swell and all but I need to see Jabba, Fett, Vader, Luke, something! I don't want to play a rip-off world of star wars craft wanna be stormtrooper white armored sith troops and big handled lightsaber BS.

3) They claim "story" is going to factor in it. That's for single player. MMOs are supposed to be player driven, I want to play my online game the way I want to play it dammit. You can keep your story and put it on a console game, I'll play it through one time and go 'aight cool'.

I've got to go to class or I'd rant more.

Re: The Old Republic

Not sure I understand your problem with KotOR.  Star Wars isn't just the movies, not any more at least.  Yes, the MOVIES were based on many if not all the greatest stories in world culture, and is a very epic comination that Lucas deserves much praise and credit for.  But as he himself has said, Star Wars Ep. I-VI are simply HIS tales that he chose to tell about this alternatve universe that he created.  He gave us, and companies like BioWare and Dark Horse *who are making some awesome comics based on KotOR,* the ability to add our own stories to it.

Do I like all these additions into the SW Universe?  Definitly not!  Do I agree with Lucas in the items he's chosen to make canon or even all his choices in the movies?  HELL NO!  But that is his privlage, just as it's my privlage to create my own story to this awesome beast that is SW and enjoy other people's tellings of it.  KotOR I've thought was probably the VERY Best off all the additions to Lucas's vision, and I am really begining to love THAT era more then the one around the movies.

Just my two cents

I love KOTOR 1 and 2.

Re: The Old Republic

I see where McCoy is coming from and I accept all of his points. I thought it was a great game, Star Wars or not, the fact that it was, I guess is just a bonus. Granted, I probably wouldn't have got it had it not been Star Wars.

On a similar note Tales of the Jedi (The series of comics) had practically nothing to do with anything from the films (I say practically, because Luke met up with Exar Kun's ghost before the comics were written.) but regardless, it's probably my favourite series of comics. I dunno why, it was just a good set of stories. Although I suppose Ulic's life was more similar to that myth idea you were talking about than anything in the KOTOR games.

Re: The Old Republic

exactly
really cool game (even tho i hated how slow and turn based the combat is, not a fan of that style, but it was easy enough to not be too annoying) but it was like 2 steps away from not being star wars and in fact, if you just played with swords the whole time and someone saw you playing it theyd probably never be able to tell it was a star wars game

"Those with the ability to lead, have the responsibility to do so."

Re: The Old Republic

Yes, the turn-based system annoyed me too. Also the speed at which the character ran annoyed me. I'm just impatient though.

Re: The Old Republic

Agreed - Oblivion'esk hack-n-slash will get my vote over turn based any day.

But back on point, I still don't see the hostility toward KotOR as being Star Wars.  Of course there are differences.  It's 4,000 years Before the movies - if you ask me not nearly enough WAS different!  Think about where our culture was 4,000 years ago...

We have the proper setting *a galaxy far far away that's getting the shab'la crap blown out of it, as usual*, the proper heros *a young Jedi for the comics, who though punkish, seems to just scrape by some how with the help of his buddies*, the proper bad-ass'ness for the enemies *comic pawns - GO MANDO'ADE!!! -  and then for the game you still have Malak, who's pretty awesome, as well as yourself if you go Dark side with Reven*.

Not sure what's missing there...  maybe it's me and my love for the game.

Re: The Old Republic

Found this today while looking to see if Wookieepedia had any new info on the Mandalorians appearing in the new season of the Clone Wars cartoon.  It's a series of mini-videos that provide some backstory history to the new Old Republic game that's coming out.  The three below are mainly about the role of the Mandalorians during this time and the emergence of the "New Mandalore."  This would be the Mandalore after Canderous Ordo, since this takes place a couple hundred years after the KOTOR video games.  They're all narrated by Lance Henriksen (the android Bishop, from the Aliens movies).  Pretty neat.  I mean, you can't have a Star Wars game this big without the Mandies, right?

Re: The Old Republic

I am deeply disturbed by this video I have seen.  Watch and observe.

http://pc.ign.com/dor/objects/816935/bi … 82109.html

Does this not take place in the OLD REPUBLIC?  Why are there even mentions of Imperials and Grand Moffs?  I deeply hope this was only a test mission.

Alright so I did some research and found that Grand Moffs have always been around.  But what about Imperials?  The Empire was formed by Palpatine.  Looking for some clearing up in this.

EDIT:  Ah nvm the Sith Empire is what the Old Republic is all about.

Re: The Old Republic

Ya they are basically copying the same plotlines from the movies essentially, just without the definitive outline of events to come or the iconic characters. That way they can change the story or kill off characters as the story goes along, without having to stick directly to what happens in the movies.
