Topic: Ohhh I have had some good news today

I post on another forum and on there I have been taking part in a photography challenge since the start of the year. There is a theme set for each month (by the previous winner) and at the end of the month, there is a poll of all the pictures submitted.

The theme for June was I hate. I won it this month big_smile I won with this picture big_smile

Wow, congrats Devil Girl!  big_smile  And couldn't have picked a better subject for 'I hate,'  who in their right mind doesn't hate flys?

Re: Ohhh I have had some good news today

Congrats from one photographer to another! I'm proud! Putting ones work out there is sometimes a hard thing and getting kudos... well that takes the cake! I am happy for you.

Re: Ohhh I have had some good news today

Not that I am an expert on art or photography, but that is one of the best photographs I've seen by a non-expert. It is extremely well focused, zoomed, centered. And as Cujo already stated, the juxtaposition of beautiful flower and creepy fly makes it even better.

well done.

Edited to add:

I have taken another fly picture recently big_smile I am really pleased with how it looks big_smile I love how you can even see pollen on the flys tongue big_smile

Re: Ohhh I have had some good news today

What lens are you using Devil Girl? Camera? I think its a macro lens to get you that level of detail.

Re: Ohhh I have had some good news today

I do not have a DSLR yet but I used a Nikon P80 to get that big_smile ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nikon-Coolpix-P … amp;sr=8-1 )

I just got as close as possible to the fly and then I cropped the picture big_smile I was only a few centimeters away from the fly when I took that big_smile

I am really looking forward to begin able to get a Nikon D300 at some point though big_smile ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nikon-D300-Body … amp;sr=1-1 )

Re: Ohhh I have had some good news today

Ah... so you are one of those Nikon people tongue I almost bought a Nikon SLR film camera a few years ago, and actually happy that didn't work out and I got my Minolta M5. (Thats how many years ago that was... that was their new thing.)This is why my photo work isn't up here yet. Its old school film and prints. (I happen to love that stuff)

Next week I shall be finally getting my DSLR, my bosses Canon D20. I love that camera. I've used it so much over the last year, it just feels right in my hands. I'll have to track down lenses though sad

Cast iron and treadmills? Oh yes. Still sculpting me to what I really want to be, and I love it. :)

Re: Ohhh I have had some good news today

Those are lovely photos.  I love the colour.

And I love the fact that you captured flies.  Those are tough buggers to sneak up on.

LOL big_smile yes I am one of those Nikon people tongue big_smile it was the first digital camera that I got and I took to it big_smile

I also love the old film and print SLR's but it is not possible for me to do that at this moment so digital is perfect for me big_smile

That is excellent that you are getting a DSLR next week big_smile have fun taking pictures with it big_smile Devil boy told me today that Nkon lenses fit on all of the camera bodies so that means that we can get a less expensive DSLR (probably a D80) to keep us going until we can afford a D300 big_smile

LOL Terra big_smile This is all new to me so it is fun to be able to big_smile

Thank you Stranger H big_smile I think the thing with insects is that you need to slowely sneak up on them and also catch them when they are preoccupied (like the fly in the last picture that was busy with the flower and the first one that was busy cleaning itself)

Hehe Masterchief big_smile I can sneak up on them wink (well most of the time big_smile )
