Re: Videogames in 50 years.

Hmmm... How many here know about Star Trek and the "Holodeck" ? Its basicaly a large square room and it creates holograms that look and feel (yes feel) real.

I think that we may have something like that in some fifty odd years from now.

Now that would be pretty cool.

Kel Solaar at your service, for a price...

Hey, there go those problems. Now to deal with the degradation of morals that this would cause.

I think it's a distinct possibility that something like a holodeck could come around in the distant future. If that's so, people will undoubtedly use it for what TW implied, and with the technology available they could simulate the perfect experience. But think about it: who would want an actual wife/girlfriend when you could have the perfect spouse without the "problem" of a personality? Never any stress from a relationship, just whatever you want, all the time. I think it would make people forget about love in real life, because the simulated thing would feel superior and wouldn't take as much effort as an actual relationship. Honestly, that scares me: forget the sanctity of marriage, the sanctity of life itself is at risk. No relationships, no kids, no human race. Maybe that's a bit extreme, and probably wouldn't happen, but I think it's safe to assume that people will stop wanting to get married when you could have your Twi'lek dancing girls.

Now that I've put my two cents in, I suggest we get back on topic before this gets off-color.

Re: Videogames in 50 years.

with the Holodeck:
*ding-dong**Salesman walks in*
Salesman: Hello?
Your wife:Yes?
Salesman: May I speak to the Man of the house?
Your wife: He's been in the holodeck since 2025.

Society will collapse when thrill is cheaper than living

Also there will probably be this statis cell thing where you have all this technology strapped on to you and just float there for hours on end and just play video games all year, only stopping to eat, drink, etc.

Re: Videogames in 50 years.

that whole idea sounds cool but how much would something like that cost, im thinking in the 100000's or more.

some blood lines were ment to end.

Not if it's in mass production...

Re: Videogames in 50 years.

They would be about as expensive as the 360 is to us. People who want it and will use it alot will think its a good investment while people who don't apreciate it will think of it as a waste of money.

But about the gaming itself, i am both excited and afraid of what the future has to bring. I mean a holodeck would be awesome, until it malfunctions and the stuff becomes real... Virtual Rancor= awesome Real one= Death

That depends on how the holodeck is made, if the virtual creations are made from even the slightest amount of gas or plasma, it can be transformed into a solid. which does not break the Law of Conservation of Matter.

ps. i was only joking in the first place, no need to destroy my fun.
